CZ 527 in 7.62x39 Questions, comments, and pictures

Shootist, I wouldn't be concerned with the honest wear marks that unavoidably appear on a working rifle. Each dent or scratch brings back memories of the buck at sunset, or that bear in the creek; if its cared for and not abused, a rifle's appearance is enhanced by these marks. The only thing preventing me from getting one of these rifles in 7.62X39 is that I'm holding out for a 20" full stock model.

I am a HUGE fan of the CZ527 Carbine in 7.62x39. I've got a whole herd of them; some are set up for irons and some are set up with glass.
Pretty much every 527 I've ever owned has had issues with the factory irons, so on both my iron sighted guns I've replaced the front and rear sights - they now wear NEGC's ghost ring rear and NEGC's partridge front. The partridge front sight comes pretty tall and required taking about 2mm off the height, and the rear sight was pretty much perfect.
My scoped 527s are set up with leupold medium 1 inch rings and leupold VX2 2-7x33 scopes.
The crown jewel of my 527 collection is their Youth Carbine version with the scaled down stock. It's hands-down my favourite rifle because it's the one I just introduced my 11 year old daughter to as her first centerfire rifle. We went out this afternoon to shoot it for the first time - it was a super-successful outing and I've been having difficulty wiping the grin off my face ever since. I shot one of my iron-sighted 527 Carbines in 7.62x39 with steel cased surplus, and she shot her Youth Carbine with some light loaded IMR4227 in PPU brass pushing hornady 123gr SSTs. We were shooting at an 11 inch AR500 plate from 100 meters, and although she missed a few times, she was quickly hitting with confidence.

I'm holding off for the Howa mini in x39 but I gotta tell ya, those CZ's are really making me want to pick one up. Every time I see it I love the thing. Good call on the NECG sights. I'd be going that way too.
And the 7.62 x 39 is totally underrated imo. Really like that round.

Actually, I've always had a soft spot for the 7.62x39 and missed my old Ruger M77 MkII in that chambering.
I'll be leaving the stock as is on mine (But bedding 'er up.) and I got a healthy pile of Lapua brass & bullets
in stock for workin' up loads for.
Besides, me CZ 452 Scout needs a bigger brother.

Got mine today and love the bugger. Feels almost as good in my hands as an M1 Carbine, but with more punch and class.
Goes nicely with my 452 Scout. All I need now is a set of Burris rings for 'er.

A Few years back I picked up a new cz527 in x39 for the girlfriend, It shot 5 round groups through a dime using factory pvri ammo at 100 yards. Surplus ammo shot ok with no failures but there was a considerable amount of wear on the extractor from shooting the steel cases.
Interesting observation - took couple newbies to the range. We had SKS, Mosin PU sniper, and CZ527 in 7.62x39. Both said that CZ527 had strongest recoil, and they preferred to shoot Mosin sniper.
I personally don't find recoil of CZ527 "stronger" but it appears to me that it "jumps" more, probably due to light weight and shorter barrel.

I got one of the first CZ527 223 to come into Vancouver. I asked Reliable to order it for me when they came out as the new MiniMauser. They had to wipe down the counter when I took it out of the box. Lots of drool. It is one of my absolute favorite rifles and is an absolute delight to shoot. I already had a CZ452 and have since obtained a couple of CZ85 pistols. I am left handed and was told a Remington would cost a LOT more and take a couple of years to get in leftie as with most of the big brands. Had the little darlin in 3 days and my family will be fighting over it when Im gone. When I take it to the club range someone always wants to fondle it. My pistols also have controls on both sides. Fit and funtion are high class all the way.If they made the 550 series in leftie I wouldnt have the Xbolts I have now for hunting. I am not a fan of the x39 but then again I would rather have a 308 backing me up in a firefight. The range is just a tad better.... Then again logic has nothing to do with it. Enjoy your CZ. You will have it for a long time. Excellent rifle.
