CZ has updated their bolt handle and it now offers more clearance for lower rings!
I sourced a new bolt handle from Dlask as they are now the CZ warranty centre for Canada. CZ part number for the new handle is 5270-0631-08ND. This new bolt handle allows me to use medium Warne rings #1B1M which are about 1/8" lower (These rings are .425" base to bottom of ring) than the factory CZ rings or the high Warne's. My Nikon buckmasters 6-18x40 still sits about an 1/8+" above the barrel on my Varmint model 527, but it is better than before. There is about 1/8"-1/10" clearance between the bolt and the ocular bell with this setup.
I think you could probably still fit a 44mm objective on the Varmint 527. At least now the scope is brought down out of the clouds!
