Does anyone out there have experience handloading for this rifle? Ive been told that this action is prone to stretching under the pressure of 223REM loads. The person that said this states that this gun was originally conceived around the 22Hornet case, and that the metal was too soft for anything any larger. I couldn't see this as being a problem myself as it's a front locking lug action, that's been quite successful in all of the 223 based cartridges, but the person who brought this up should be knowledgeable enough to at least listen to. Please keep the armchair experience to yourself, as I'm contemplating buying one of these in 223REM, and I don't want to be stuck with a problematic lemon; though actual experience would be priceless.

I have a 527 Kevlar, I have shot about 500 factory and 250 reloads that were all once fired factory that were neck sized only with no problems. I have also loaded some a 3rd time, again necksized, again with no issues. Have been running pretty close to max safe load for this particular rifle. The only issue I have found is it doesn't like 50gr or lighter (1.5"groups) but loves the 69gr SMK and Berger 70gr, won't shoot 75gr vmax. This is pretty typical for a 9" twist.

No peening to your locking lugs I would presume then; most excellent.

Ive had one for a couple years in 221 Fireball. They're wonderful rifles. I would not expect any issues with the longevity of one in 204, 222 or 223
 
The rifle that I'm actually thinking of is the CZ527 M1 synthetic; it's got a 1 in 12 twist, but that's fine with me as I would be using 55gr bullets. I was never a fan of the detachable magazine sticking out. If they made it with only a floorplate that would be better, but "oh well".

To each his own, I prefer DM's for anything that needs to be quickly available when exiting a vehicle or when something comes in the yard. Also like the look but I've always been a closet Tacticoolguy:cool:

Got me the woodie version last year and been feeding nuthin but handloads so far. I was told this mech was actually designed with the 223 in mind. New gun should not have issues with full bore powder loads and have heard nothing at all to that effect either. Sure is a nicely built little rifle. Waiting for the snow to come off the range so I can work up the rest of the loads.
 
Well, I've gone and done it; I ordered a CZ527 M1 American Synthetic from Clay at Prophet River. What the heck, I got a Leupold 3-9X33 on order as well.
Brotherjack; if your reading this, while you're down south, wanna see if you can pick up a set of dies? (RCBS, of course)

cummins4X4; are those the factory rings on there, or are they a Timney set? I've always used the 2 die sets, and done a partial, full length re size; just until I've kissed the shoulder.

Those are Warne rings, I really didn't like the CZ 2 pc rings and they were only available in highs 30mm.
I have the Redding deluxe set but use a RCBS Comp seating die. I neck size until the brass is difficult to chamber and then FL resize just enough to chamber easily.
 
I guess that it's good that I have a set of Leupold rings on order as well then. I've always looked at the neck sizing until it gets tight as introducing one more variable into the whole equation; though the bullet seating die should have slightly less runout.

OK, now is the most difficult part of the whole "buying a new gun" thing. Even though Clay at Prophet River told me that it wasn't going to be in until March, I'm looking at the picture on the CZ website, and pacing. Obsessive/compulsive is a horrible thing to be, it truly is.

That would just be too much for me, I'd have to be in cryogenic freezing for the last half of the wait. I think that Ralph Martini knows to put a rush on my stuff to get me out of his hair.

Mike, Nice selection in rifles - I have that same model in .223 Rem. It came with rings so I didn't buy any, I put a Swarovski TDS scope on it and it looks great. It shoots very well and I have killed numerous crows with it. I am looking to drop a nice wolf with it but things haven't worked out to go out and hunt. I am working up a nice load in a 60 vmax bullet. It stabilizes them well and they seem to be pretty lethal on everything I have shot to date. Here is mine:
