I just bought a lightly used 527 carbine and have a couple questions;

- I want to mount a 2-7 Leopold compact that I have. Wondering what the lowest rings are that will allow clearing the bolt. Rifle was new last year so should have the updated bolt handle and if not, I will upgrade it. I would like to get the scope low to improve cheek weld with the sloping butt stock.

- any preference for reloadable brass or dies?

- any experience on deer using either the Speer or Sierra .310, .311 Bullets in the 125 grain weight range?

I have H4198 on the shelf so will likely start with that.

I hope this will be a moderate step up for my daughters over the .223.

Thanks

Yeah the warne med rings should clear the bolt handle with the leupold. I was thinking of mounting a 1-4x20 from leupold with qd rings, the 2-7 should fit well too. I found out there are differences between saami and the cip chamber specs(this has a cip chamber) Its built to handle the lacquered case european ammo. Full length sized with saami sizing die(lee) and there was enough excessive headspace to cause light primer strikes. Backed off the die about 20thousand from touching the shell holder and all was good though. I will send you a sample pack of bullets and brass I got ahold of a big bag of imi brass years ago, but fed and the s&b brass seems like good stuff. I would have liked to get ahold of a crate of the red army standard elite reloadable brass out the usa, the s&b stuff seems to be good stuff if you can find it.

The little 125 grain pills at there moderate velocity kill surprisingly well, I feel more confident on larger bodied deer vs say a .243

OP did you get the one for $725 on EE? I looked at that add for a loooonnnnng time but didn't commit. I think I missed out.

I have a vortex hst 4-16 with a 44mm objective scope with leupold medium rings on my cz527. Bolt handle clears, but not by much.
Not sure what the rear lens is on your scope... Actually the way the bolt is not sure it could go down much I can text you a pic if interested. Pm me

I have the same scope on my 527 .223. Warne rings are the lowest I've tried so far ( haven't tried them all), but could stand to be lower still. I don't like the way the standard rings attach, and am looking for a set of QD's. The rings I have on it now are actual CZ's, I believe, but are higher than necessary.

I went with Leupold high rings on mine with a straight 4X.........shot two deer with it.......IMR 4198 is a good powder for either the 123gr of .311/150's...........Harold
