CZ 550 Anyone here own/shoot one?

I just looked at a 550 safari magnum in the local store. The floor plate wouldn't open when you pressed the release button, the follower seemed weak. I looked at the factory test target and it was an o.k. group but I would expect better for the money they were asking. The rest of the gun looked well built, a true magnum action. I bought a 452 in 17 HMR for my kids to share and its a great looking gun that shoots respectable groups.

I got a Medium Lux in 7mmRM and love it. A real beauty with nice smooth action that feed perfectly. Reluctant to bring it in the wood though. She is quite precise , shooting in the .75 moa range with handloads. The set trigger is as sweet as it can be.

I also consider a shame to have put a plastic floorplate on that rifle. Shame also goes to the canadian CZ distributors and importer that didn't helped with the replacement of that hideous part. I tried not ounce but twice with our canadian lazy fellows ... without success. The Lux and her Bavarian style stock is certainly easier to aim from the open sights . I agree with the awkward shooting position with the OEM medium rings.

I also own a 452 Varmint model in 22LR that i love very much. I installed a Yodave trigger kit that is a nice upgrade. Nice shooter too.

I'm wondering what would be my next CZ...?

^ this has been my experience as well. I bought a CZ 550 FS for myself last summer in 6.5X55 and although I do like the rifle and it shoots very well, the fact that they decided to use a plastic floorplate and some sort of metal alloy end cap, is a problem. I contacted the Canadian Distributor and it's clear they have no interest in helping me get replacement parts. Disappointing to say the least.

I am in total agreement about that sh%tty plastic floorplate, BUT, my 550 LUX, in 6.5x55 is the absolute most accurate rifle i've ever fired, it'll get close to 1/2MOA, using blue box 140s, haven't got around to handloading for it yet, cause i don't think i'll be able to improve on that! low rings definately help with better shooting form, it took a bit to get used to the buttstock configuration, but i have no regrets for having this gun, very well made, really smooth trigger,on mine at least, solid, dependable, rugged, it rivals a lot of other brands with a really high $$$ RD
