I was thinking for a really long time about an average caliber iron sights bolt rifle, smooth action, comfortable to shoot and nice to look at, and finally stopped on CZ 550 FS. There is something about that beautiful "tiger stripe" Turkish walnut in combination with the full stock foregrip. Can't make up my mind about the caliber, though - 308 or 243 Win? Anybody who shot both from this or similar rifles from a standing position is welcome to share opinions. Mostly interested in the opinions on recoil and accuracy of those two calibers.

Split the difference. Get the 6.5. Very accurate, and, the cartridge will fit the action. The 550 uses the same action for all the calibers it's listed in, meaning the short action calibers like .243 & .308 won't benefit from their size. You'll still have to cycle them as if they were long action calibers.

Besides, the full stock in 6.5 or 9.3 is way more in keeping with the euro style. I'm holding out for one in 9.3, however I'm seriously thinking about getting one in the 6.5 as well.

ruger/cz i like both, but they definitely have a different feel. if you have the chance, try both out. imo the cz is built to use iron sights, it comes up nice. on the other hand, i would like to get myself another ruger rsi, too.

How woulf you guys rate a CZ 550 FS recoil of 9.3, 6.5, 243, 308 and 30-06 calibers? Shooting in standing position. Rate them from the lightest to the hardest.

Thanks

The CZ isn't a light gun. None of those calibers shot while standing should pose a real problem for most shooters except maybe the 9.3. .243, 6.5, .308, .30-06, 9.3.

Personally I've been eyeing a CZ 550 in 6.5x55, would make an excellent all around rifle.

benifits

in 243 & 308 the 550 is available with a det. mag
I wrote to cz and asked if there was any way I could get one with det. mag & 6.5x55 ( by far my favorite round ) - no chance.

My experience is with the 9.3 and the 6.5. Must say that I believe them to be some of the most beautiful rifles made. I am thinking of buying one, but I am not a fan of the detachable mags. Go for it. Any caliber is good.

Thank you all for the input, it really helped me in my decision. Yesterday I ordered a CZ 550 FS in 308 plus 4 spare mags. I really like that caliber, my two precision target rifles are also in 308, so, I'm all set up for reloading, etc. Should arrive in approximately 10 days. I'll post the first range report as soon as I try it out.

I have a FS 550 in 308. Pretty heavy recoil. I don't know why someone would said it's not a light gun because it is, maybe not ultralight, but light with a 20.5" barrel for sure. Accuracy-wise, it is superbly accurate and that potential is easily accessible with the set trigger. It is my favorite hunting rifle by far.
