Hey everyone.

Just picked up a CZ-557 bolt action in 308. What's odd is that it comes with the Canadian Ranger's coat of arms engraved on the stock.

Anyone hear if this is supposed to be a replacement for the good old Enfield? Cause I didn't order the engraving on it.

"...Canadian Ranger's coat of arms..." No such thing.
"...replacement for..." Nope. According to the CF web site, the CF still issues No. 4 Lee-Enfields to the Rangers.

Yes there is A Ranger Emblem......Is this a New Rifle.....Pics would be good

the C.R.R. project is currently held up with a projected completion date of 2015

Could have been a rifle prepared for the first trials (not completed) and then sold off

But I don't think the Canadian Rangers can get a new service rifle: their crest is a maple leaf spray over top a crossed rifle and double-bitted axe, and the rifle is very clearly and definitely a Lee Enfield No. 4.

Is this a new in the box rifle? If that's a trial rifle, it's definitely going to have some collector value - I know folks with fairly extensive collections of Ranger memorabilia, so there would be a market.

Thanks guys for the thumbs up.

If a mod can adjust the title of this thread to tell people that the pictures are on page 2, I'd be thankful.

Very very cool!

Yes I don't know if I would fire it either! I guess maybe the answer depends on whether this was just a personally engraved rifle (in which case, shoot it), or basically if that engraving was paid for by taxpayers (in which case, super collectable IMO).

That is cool!

IIRC, a few years ago the government was looking for a replacement for the Lee Enfield (with input from the Rangers) but I can't remember if they decided on one.

Maybe that is the replacement.

Or it could be that CZ was asked to submit some sample rifles and they are selling them off if our government decided against the contract.
