Cz 557 eclipse

I picked up a cz557 eclipse in 3006 for a friend for dirt cheap. He is a novice centrefire shooter (has shot rimfire and clays) and we went to zero his scope and try a few types of ammo. Winchester super X 150gr and federal blue box 150 GR printed 9x 3rd 1in groups (going by the squares on the target, didn't have a ruler, may have been some 1.2 in groups in there). The Federals were printing maybe 1 in right of the winchester. There were no flyers or outliers.

Pretty impressed with it right out of the box with cheap ammo and a new shooter (though he didn't start out with bad habits

Good bang for the buck. That being said if you're buying new, Cabela's has the Sauer 100 xt for $750 with free shipping. Since they're the same price new, I'd go with the Sauer.

Or, buy a CZ 557 Lux with excellent iron sights, metal trigger guard/floor plate and select Turkish walnut stock. A step up from the Eclipse which is CZ's entry 557 and while very good, has plastic bottom metal, no iron sights and comes with a plastic stock.

Anyone have any time with a cz 557 eclipse? Im looking st one in 3006.
Not much out there to be honest. I just want to make sure im not going yo be wasting my $$$

For the price, they are hard to beat. If you're lucky you can pick one up for $600-$700. I've owned a 557 Eclipse and a few other rifles in that price range and would say it's one of the best. Unfortunately I sold mine because I wanted an '06 with a longer barrel but it's a very handy, short/light deer rifle. Yes the Lux is a better rifle but also 30 to 40% more $ at most stores.

went back out for some some time at the range with the CZ 557 eclipse in 3006 today.
Very impressed. Fired off the remainder of the federal blue box 150gr and sighted it in with some sako gamehead 150gr. Grouped sub-moa with the sako.

One minor irritant is the sling swivel studs are just slightly undersized for every sling we had. Easily addressed by enlarging them with a drill but never had that occur before.

If you've got a lead on a used one, go for it. If you're buying new I still think the sauer 100 is a more refined package and I would choose it over the CZ if they were both 750$ as they currently are.

True enough. But for the quality of walnut, adjustable sights, included sling swivels and all-metal parts, it's one of the best values by far.

Could someone with more CZ experience chime in on the 557 product line? I'm confused on their different models.

I see there are several different models with black synthetic stocks: Eclipse, Night Sky, Black Edition.
Models with wood stocks: Lux, Sporter, American and Range.

With the discontinuation of the previous Range model, which models come with iron sights and detachable magazines?

To make matters more confusing, there's an Eclipse for sale on Tenda with iron sites! If you can live with a plastic trigger guard and floorplate and synthetic stock, this is a really good deal!!

2021 saw a reduced number of models and calibres. Apparently 2022 will be bring "exciting news" on the CZ hunting line. For 2021, the Eclipse replaced the "synthetic", "medium" and "black" editions--which came with metal trigger guards and floorplates. The Lux and Lux 2 come with select Turkish walnut stocks in addition to all metal, iron sights and sling swivels. The Sporter is discontinued as is the Range.

So if I want to stick with a iron sights, a nice wood stock, metal trigger/guard and detachable box mag it looks like limited to the Lux/Lux II? or do those also come with the internal magazine?

Maybe i'll just wait for the 2022 announcements to see what they have coming down the pipeline.
