I'm interested in hearing about your experiences and how you like the fit and feel of them - with optics and without. I've only handled the CZ 527 but I found it to be a very well balanced feeling rifle that fit me awesome. I'm more of a big-game hunter and got looking at these 557's and was curious about how they stacked up. Feel free to share some pics if you're inclined! thanks

My 527 is one of my favourites.... Had to drift the rear site out to get the scope to clear without goofy rings, but it is very nicely built and a tack driver. CZ's have a firm beachead in the safe, 455, 527, 550, 97B and they all perform! So the CZ contingent will grow...

I have a CZ 550 LUX in .270 Winchester and a CZ 455 FS. If I buy another hunting rifle, its going to be another CZ 550 in 9.3x62. Most likely a 550 FS with a 1-4 compact scope. The 557 line up doesn't have a set trigger although the trigger is very easy to adjust to however you like it. The 557 is also a push feed with a plunger style ejector. You loose the control feed of the 550 however the operation is smoother.
Is the action short or is it a one size fits all similar to the Tikka t3? Where did you find your carbine? Those look really awesome too, though I'm really not sure what the difference is between it and the regular 557' s. From their website they have similar specs including barrel length

Dunno the differences but might be how the stock is carved. Mine has fibre iptic iron sights.

Is the floorplate also polymer on this model? I'd prefer to handle one first (planning on a 6.5x55) but haven't seen any yet so far in the local gunshops.

You most likely won't. Not a very main stream gun. No dbm, dovetail scope mounts. A remmy 700 is an easier sale

I have a .223 CZ527 Ebony edition shoots like a dream, light and easy to carry. It has a 5.56x45 chamber so you can seat the bullets out father than with a .223. The newer models have a modified bolt handle for mounting the scope lower than before, now if only someone would make some lower mounts. CZ also modified the extractor to allow the bolt to close on a single round rather than go through the magazine. The trigger comes factory set at 3.5 lbs and the set trigger breaks at 1.5 perfect for target work.

If you can make it into Calgary during the Banker's Hours that ProLine keeps, head in and talk to the guys there. They usually have a pretty full range of CZ's - the owner and pretty much everyone who works there are Brno/CZ disciples.
Good chance they'll have one on the rack you can fondle, and most of the staff really know their CZ's.

I was a little disappointed when I heard that the CZ 557's were all long actions, for me the 20.5 inch barrel would be great on a .308 Win short action rifle.
I was so disappointed that I fired off an email to czub.cz just to be certain that what I was hearing was in fact true. Sadly, the response I received verifies
that the current CZ 557's are based on a long action. That response, however, also contained a glimmer of hope: I was informed that next year CZ plans
to offer short and long action versions of the CZ 557 and they will also be introducing a detachable magazine - although they did not specify which chamberings
the detachable magazines would be available in.

You are quite right. You would think with all the care and attention that CZ puts into their rifles that one would expect a short action rifle to go along
with a short action chambering like the .308 Win, or the .243 Win - getting it in a long action kind of defeats the purpose of going with the shorter cartridges. The only CZ rifle I've
ever owned was a 550 in 9.3x62mm, so a long action was expected. Unfortunately, I doubt that CZ will start producing short action 550's, but you never know.

Will rings for a CZ 550 fit on to your 527? If so, you might want to have a look at Warne rings (if you haven't already that is). I haven't visited Warne's website in a while, so I don't
know what kind of CZ rings they are making these days, but they do make good rings.
