CZ 557 owners - tell me about them please

Thanks Clay, I appreciate the offer, but I was just teasing you since it wasn't on your site yet and I couldn't look at the pretty pictures - you always take good pictures.
Anyway, lately I've been contemplating a new rifle in .308 Win and the CZ 557 Carbine comes very close to what I'd like, with the only real down side being that it only
comes in a long action. I handled a 557 Lux (in 30-06) and it was really very nice and I just loved the new iron sights on it, but it's not a short action .308 so...
About the closest thing to the ideal rifle for me right now would be the Ruger M77 RCM (Ruger Compact Magnum) in .308 Win that they used to make - put the new
CZ 557 iron sights on it and it would be perfect. There is the CZ 557 Ranger that's starting to show up, but I don't know about the length of it's action and I have zero
interest in a 10 round magazine, and let's not even discuss the price that is being asked. So it looks like I'll be waiting for CZ to offer up their 557 in a true short action
rifle and that will probably take some time.

Thanks again.

I was a little disappointed when I heard that the CZ 557's were all long actions, for me the 20.5 inch barrel would be great on a .308 Win short action rifle.
I was so disappointed that I fired off an email to czub.cz just to be certain that what I was hearing was in fact true. Sadly, the response I received verifies
that the current CZ 557's are based on a long action. That response, however, also contained a glimmer of hope: I was informed that next year CZ plans
to offer short and long action versions of the CZ 557 and they will also be introducing a detachable magazine - although they did not specify which chamberings
the detachable magazines would be available in.

The short action offering would make it an even nicer package! That would be worth waiting to see I think.

I think so too. I like CZ products and from what I've seen of the CZ 557, it's a very nice, solid package as most CZ rifles are, but if I'm going to go with
a short action cartridge like the .308 Win then it would be great if I could reap all the benefits of that choice. For once I think I'll wait for something I want,
rather then settling for something that is "almost" what I want.

I had one I loved the rifle balance palm swell all was really good,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Except the LOP it was 14 plus inches and long eye relief scopes of quality were needed to bring it back far enough

Most European guns are designed for DRIVEN hunts were sights are used so LOP does not matter much

great quality rifle

Who carries these?

This past winter I bought two 557 range rifles in .308win to complement the couple of 527s I love to shoot. Since getting them I've only been out once to sight in, too much snow right now!! Will do a proper review once the fields clear up a bit.

Cheers,

Brobee

I bought a 557 Sporter in 308 a while back and love it! Nice piece of wood on it, fit and finish are great. Have a set of medium Burris signature rings with a Leupold vari x ii on it.. gloss to go with the nice blueing. Have put 60 rounds through it, very nice to shoot and have got some nice groups out of it so far. Will post a picture if I can figure out how..

I have a 557 Ranger and thinking about mounting a Leupold VX-5HD with an ADM quick detach mount so I can still use the irons.

I love the look and feel of this gun. Going to use it for deer this fall.

Wolverine has another batch of 557 rangers coming in @$1175
As an alternative another site sponsor here has 550 308 carbines same as ranger less the sight rail and detachable magazines for $899

Yep pretty good options at at what looks like an awesome gun. I am buying the 557 based on my ezp9with the CZ527 in 7.62x39.... Such a fun little rifle, A CZ bolt action in 308 gives the gun the extra power to be used for any hunts I want.
