CZ 600 Alpha 7.62x39 CGN promo - $354 discount + free ship!

I'm digging the magazine lock, it's a cool feature!

And the more I handle this rifle, the more I'm glad I didn't go with a Howa 1500 package that I was eyeing...
Can you top load easily with the mag locked in place? Really wanting to buy a 7.62x39 CZ with that feature if the top loading is nice and smooth.

Definitely top loads, at least did for me without a scope mounted.

The weight and balance of the rifle feels really good - I don't love those thinner T3X Lite barrels, and so I feel like I get a beefier barrel with this Alpha in a comparable weight. As others have said, trigger is really nice with simple intuitive adjustments, and I don't see that safety being a problem at all other than being unorthodox. I really want to dislike the stock, and the rubber panels are stupid and cheap feeling, but the actual ergos fit me really well and so I can't really gripe.

Okay, I made it to the range at the end of the day and here are the results with the three types of ammunition that I have on hand.

I forgot to bore sight the gun at 50m, and I fired one shot with Hornady SST that was 6" low & 3" left, I adjusted the scope & fired another shot dead centre about 1/2" low.

So out too 100m I went... I aimed for the centre target & printed that 3 shot group using the Hornady SST ammo. I switched to ChinaSport (lol) and fired the two bottom left & right groups. And finally broke out the Sellier & Bellot, printing the top left group, adjusting the scope & shot the top right group.

The steel cased Hornady SST feeds & fires fine, I should have shot more groups with it... Next time

The steel cased ChinaSports was another story. Some cartridges chambered fine, others were tight & one would not chamber at all! Never had these troubles with this ammo & my SKS lol... Anyhow, if you needed to, the ammo would do in a pinch and the deer would likely never know the difference?

And finally the brass cased Sellier & Bellot fed & fired beautifully! It printed the two top 3 shot groups on the target, which made me VERY happy!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. ALL the ammo requires the shooter to bring the bolt to the rear with a bit of authority to cleanly eject the casings.

Forgot to say, it's totally possible to top load the rifle with the magazine in place. Just a little finicky if ya got big fingers lol, it is 7.62x39...

And, I'm not sure I'll get used to the safety. So weird. But I'll deal as this little rifle is such a nice rig!

All the recall was is they put red thread locking compound on the screws that hold the barrel in so they are not "user" changeable anymore.

Good video on why the recall was a mistake here:
Weird story and doesn't add up as told. I'm thinking they were told their "take-down" multi-calibre rifle was not acceptable and this is the cover story, or they had a rethink on the whole idea of multi-calibre rifles and decided they were costing themselves too many sales.

Also wanted to mention 2 other things.

I found the trigger to be very good & have not adjusted it from the factory setting.

And my rifle with the scope & rings comes in at just under 3kg or 6lbs 9 & 5/8 ounces.

Like I said, it's a handy little rig!

They have a new model 600 + (plus) out, and I have a feeling it will be introduced across the line up and that could be why Nechako got a deal from the distributor as they are anticipating new models this summer.

The plus series has a more idiot proof barrel swap interface..... can't see them making those engineering changes if they think multi barrel guns are a loser for them. Mulit barrel is popular in Europe where some countries limit the amount of guns (receivers) a person can have.

Could be, but what was wrong with the existing design? The bolt locks into the barrel extension, not the receiver, so either it locks in and you can fire the rifle, or it doesn't lock in and you can't. Broken firing pin tip stuck through bolt face causing ignition before the bolt was locked? I can't see any other scenario. The story in the video is obvious nonsense as if the barrel was sliding out of the action the bolt couldn't reach it to latch and engage the firing pin - and here I'm assuming the design has a safety lug of some kind that prevents firing before the bolt is closed.

If it was an actual test range as described maybe it was an oiled proof round which had no chamber wall adhesion and the bolt fractured.

There seems to be some skepticism here too: ht tps://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/anyone-have-the-details-on-the-event-that-triggered-the-cz600-recall.7245361/

The original design relied on torque to hold things together, where the new design also has a mechanical locking element and is not just a clamping force.... main point is they seem to be moving forward with a new multi caliber quick change design.
