Cz 600 American vs Ruger American 7.62x39 thoughts?

The 600 presses the barrel into the receiver somehow, so basically only change barrel at the factory and never worth the cost...

The CZ barrel slides into and is clamped into the receiver with the retaining torx bolts as in the above picture.

The only reason to consider an American over a CZ600 is if you want to replace the barrel. Whereas the American you can buy a prefit and some tools and gauges and do it in your garage.

I've been thinking about a 661mm overall length SBR rifle for traversing brush, in 7.62x39 or .300 blackout. I could do that with a Ruger American and a prefit. With a CZ, I guess I could cut recrown and thread the existing barrel, but that would be the only option.

The 600's are held in with some loctited bolts, There might not be prefit's due to the fact that CZ backed away from offering it as multi caliber easy swap due to the reported issue with an improperly torqued barrel.

That isn't stopping one from sending their barrel off to IBI or the like and having one machined.

Yes, the fact that off the shelf pre-fit's never materialized due to the decision not to market the 600 as "easy swap", does not mean that a handy man could not fabricate their own replacement barrels or hire someone else to do it.....

I'm looking forward to the 600 plus and pre-fit barrels from different makers which is pretty likely in my opinion.

Thanks for mentioning that - I didn't realize it was a thing until I read your response and looked it up.

The difficulty is the barrel extension that has the locking lug recesses.

Take the ssg3000 / sauer 200 only benchmark in the USA makes barrel extensions and they won’t sell one unless a barrel is screwed to it. You can get barrels and extensions in Europe.

No issue cutting it off a shot out barrel but those wanting caliber changes idk CZ is notorious for
Parts supply.

A barrel company isn’t going to make pre-fits unless they also make the extension

Seeing if anyone has experience with both these in 7.62x39. Skipping the Gen 2 American as it’s just not available anywhere. Plan on mostly target at 100yrds. The CZ is a beauty but also 300-400 more.

I just had this same conversation with myself.

Missed the boat on a 527, have a howa that I have not shot much and wanted something different. I am a cz fan and no offense to any 600 alpha owners but I just couldn't get over how ugly it is. Ended up with the rar gen 1 for several reasons - no gen 2s available, I liked the look better then the alpha, 16"barrel, less expensive, good accuracy, you can smooth up the bolt and you have some upgrade options etc.
