I am a CZ fan, and I am very keen to see these. I would like to see a measure of the mags internal length on the ‘medium’ action. If they are doing 6.5PRC I hope it gets to 3” on the inside.
I too love classic, all steel, rich bluing and no plastic. The BRNO 21/ZG47 are fantastic, although stock shapes are not ideal for scoped use. Its tough to deny that many of the ‘plasticity’ rifles we are see, especially from Euro makers, are working very well – Sauer 100, Mauser M18, the venerable Tikka’s. Scope them and go and shoot. Accurate, good triggers, typically very good reliability. I think people get understandably misty eyed about older CZ’s and some things become slightly exaggerated:
Finish – The older 600 series, the ZKK’s, didn’t have blued actions, they were rough texted finish from the casting, the finish looked almost like Parkerizing.
Plastic on CZ’s – For maybe 20 years CZ’s in many models have had plastic magazine parts. My last 550 (9.3x62 FS) came from the factory with a plastic floor plate and plastic follower. The first owner retro fitted steel. CZ has been using plastic stocks for some years as well.
Barrel clamps on the new 600: This is how the barrels are held in place on Sauer 200’s, 202’s (maybe 404’s?), SHR970’s and probably a few others. None of those are generally regarded as inaccurate, unreliable, or poor quality rifles. The bolt locks into the barrel, which is negates the need for the barrel-action joint to hold the firing pressure.
Triggers – the early ZKK 600’s did not have great triggers. The triggers on the 550’s were good, but nothing to be amazed by. I have never pulled the trigger on a 557. There were easy to adjust. Current European makers seem to be able to make a good, adjustable trigger on a basic level rifle.
Scope mounting – the bolt handle clearance on the ZKK’s, 550’s and early 527’s was not great. Many people found that they could not get the scope low enough because the bolt handle would not clear the eye piece.
The ZKK’s, ZKW’s, 550’s, 557’s, 527’s were all great actions, had classic appeal, but were not always perfect without some mods or work. Great foundations. The 527 and its predecessors really are unique and cool micro mausers.
I suspect that these rifles might be good out of the box – no fussing with re-crowning, working on or replacing triggers, bedding, polishing chambers, re-fitting bolt handles etc. I guess time will tell.
