this is brutal, they should be ashamed of themselves, these guns will be falling apart like cheap suits

This is not a new concept. Practically identical to the Sauer 202, 404, Roessler, etc. and works very well. The lugs do not lock into the receiver like a conventional bolt action, they lock directly into the barrel.

I think the potential issue is not about headspace, but a shift of barrel relative to receiver and optic bases.

I am a CZ fan, and I am very keen to see these. I would like to see a measure of the mags internal length on the ‘medium’ action. If they are doing 6.5PRC I hope it gets to 3” on the inside.

I too love classic, all steel, rich bluing and no plastic. The BRNO 21/ZG47 are fantastic, although stock shapes are not ideal for scoped use. Its tough to deny that many of the ‘plasticity’ rifles we are see, especially from Euro makers, are working very well – Sauer 100, Mauser M18, the venerable Tikka’s. Scope them and go and shoot. Accurate, good triggers, typically very good reliability. I think people get understandably misty eyed about older CZ’s and some things become slightly exaggerated:

Finish – The older 600 series, the ZKK’s, didn’t have blued actions, they were rough texted finish from the casting, the finish looked almost like Parkerizing.

Plastic on CZ’s – For maybe 20 years CZ’s in many models have had plastic magazine parts. My last 550 (9.3x62 FS) came from the factory with a plastic floor plate and plastic follower. The first owner retro fitted steel. CZ has been using plastic stocks for some years as well.

Barrel clamps on the new 600: This is how the barrels are held in place on Sauer 200’s, 202’s (maybe 404’s?), SHR970’s and probably a few others. None of those are generally regarded as inaccurate, unreliable, or poor quality rifles. The bolt locks into the barrel, which is negates the need for the barrel-action joint to hold the firing pressure.

Triggers – the early ZKK 600’s did not have great triggers. The triggers on the 550’s were good, but nothing to be amazed by. I have never pulled the trigger on a 557. There were easy to adjust. Current European makers seem to be able to make a good, adjustable trigger on a basic level rifle.

Scope mounting – the bolt handle clearance on the ZKK’s, 550’s and early 527’s was not great. Many people found that they could not get the scope low enough because the bolt handle would not clear the eye piece.

The ZKK’s, ZKW’s, 550’s, 557’s, 527’s were all great actions, had classic appeal, but were not always perfect without some mods or work. Great foundations. The 527 and its predecessors really are unique and cool micro mausers.

I suspect that these rifles might be good out of the box – no fussing with re-crowning, working on or replacing triggers, bedding, polishing chambers, re-fitting bolt handles etc. I guess time will tell.

All good points above. I will say that the three Brno 21's I owned were just about as perfect as one could expect in a factory rifle, but required bolt modifications or a replacement M98 bolt with a turned down handle to allow for low optics mounting. The ZG-47 was the same. That is why I rant and rave about the the 557, which gets so little praise. It's probably the most refined CZ ever, and needs nothing out of the box. Beautiful wood, excellent crisp trigger, and all-steel (except trigger guard and sight bases are cast aluminum alloy and the follower is plastic). I have my doubts the 600 will match the 557, but who knows.

Re-crowning? Never owned a Brno or CZ that had a bad barrel or crown.

True, older CZ's are/were good, maybe needed bedding. The ZKK 602's would sometimes have isues when cycled hard, many that see service in the dnagerous game fields get some tweaking. The KNP armourers tune their .458's mags so they feed well, my late ourfitter boss had a couple, of stories of gun fights that ensued when stock ZKK 602's had feeding issues. He shot an elephant off a guy who had a 602 .375 fail when the bolt was run hard. All guns can fail, and the CZ's lend themsleves to easy fixes of those issues. For the rest of the 99.99% of the world who don't work around DG all the time, these things are likley never an issue. Those excellent CZ stretched actions (ZKK 602 and 550 magnum) are still the modern 'standard' for the 2.85" H&H cased big bores and Rigby based cartridges.

If I were some of you, I'd buy one of the remaining CZ 557 and 527 models still in inventory with several of our site sponsors. They represent a hell of a deal, and are both well made and serviceable out of the box.

Not much to add other than I just bought up my first rifle in 30 years and it is a lefty hand CZ 557 in 30.06 with the Monte Carlo stock. Looking forward getting back into this!
