CZ 75 Finish

I just received my CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow on Monday and I noticed that the black finish appears to be uneven on one side of the frame. There is a 1cm x 3cm area on the right side of the frame that reflects light more than the rest of the metal on the gun. Is this a common thing with the CZ 75?

There are also a couple really minor defects on the right side of the frame. I guess that the cosmetic finish on the gun is not perfect, but I do not know if it is supposed to be...

We just got a shipment of four in today and on opening them the finish looks shiny in some places and matt in others but it is just the preservative put on them at the factory. A good clean should restore a consistent sheen to the frame.

Keep in mind they are built as a service pistol (overseas) so although they have a good tough hard wearing finish it is intended to be practical not pretty.

I had a CZ75 and it's finish was beautiful, my CZ97 also had a good finish. That was about 5 years ago, maybe their QC went down since then.

:agree: get it dirty, then a clp rub down, and you should notice everything the same consistancy.

Sounds like your pistol has defects in the finish. To answer your question - No, it's not supposed to be like that. Scrub and oil it to see if it evens out, but mine came out of the box, shiny and even. My CZ97b had a matte finish but it was thick and even. They have a hard wearing coating, but it will scratch off and wear just like other brands.

My 2 CZ's were perfect right out of the box.

I wiped the frame down with MPro7 gun cleaner and LPX oil to remove the factory grease and the defect in the finish is still there. There are also two small dings on the frame where it meets the slide. They are on the outside of the frame, not in an area that contacts the slide.

If these are just cosmetic issues I can live with them. I would have thought that a CZ gun would have quality control equal to my M&P9, which is perfect.

Looks like the QC has gone down since 2010 when I bought my CZ. I'm sure it functions perfectly like a CZ75 always does, but buying a new pistol with a flawed finish sucks.

Nice finish and grip combo. I like.

Thanks. A friend made those zebrawood grips for me. I sold the pistol a few years back though.

Yeah, it's too bad. The experience buying from Reliable Gun was great, but this makes me want to buy locally so that I can see the gun before I buy it.

I feel that the biggest piece of missing information is "which finish does it have?" CZ-75s have been made with several finishes. Stainless, nickel plated or blued should be held to a higher standard than parkerized or baked enamel. The latter finishes are intended to be tough, utilitarian finishes for working combat pieces and minor flaws are irrelevant.

Though I would also bet if you clean and oil it evenly the difference will go away.

I wasn't aware that the Shadow had a finish other than black polycoat. Now I see that there is a dual-tone, which apparently is a silver painted frame. Mine is black.

As for cleaning, see post #8.

And I fully acknowledge that I am probably being picky considering it is a service pistol platform that is finished with a baked on polymer. Unfortunately, I tend to have an eye for spotting defects.

I don't think expecting a new pistol to have a new finish, free of defects is too much to ask for. I expect it. Heck, I had a 25yr old 686-3 that was near perfect after all those years.

Unfortunately, there is nothing I can really do about it. I doubt that Reliable or CZ would exchange it. I just hope it shoots as well as my friends Shadow, but I won't know until the registration certificate gets here.

I uploaded images where I gradually angle the barrel up with a light directly above so that you can see what I am talking about. I wonder if the powder coat is thin there and I am seeing the parkerized frame below...

I bought it from Reliable Gun in Vancouver a few weeks ago (it arrived 12 days ago). I don't think that they would ship a used gun to me and try to pass it off as new. I bought it from them because people seem to give them good reviews on these forums.

I have never had a holster, so I have no idea what sort of wear they cause on the finish of a gun.
