I had my first ever fail to feed with my Shadow yesterday. 2500 rounds without an issue then two mags with three rounds that failed to feed. I strongly suspect the ammunition as it is the first time I've tried commercial reloads. Stripped the gun this morning and found that it's extremely dirty from this ammo. Far more so than the AE and Blazer that I have been using but I also noticed that the guide rod is slightly bent. Is this normal or should I replace it?
Also while I'm at it, the gun came with a spare spring that I assume is the main spring. When should this be replaced?

It could be a lighter main spring, or a heavier one. Try it out. I don't replace main Springs. I put 11lb ones in and leave em.
I would replace the guide rod.

You never replace mainsprings? Don't you ever get light primer taps? Seems like if i extend 11lb mainspring life beyong 5000 they don'T fire my primers 10% of the time.

To the OP, Slavex already told you to change rod, maybe one thing i would personnaly add as i did it on my 2 shadows, polish the feeding ramp until it's mirror.
BTW we had a guy at the club with a brand new shadow that would jam 1 out of 3 times. The bullets would hit the feeding ramp and not go up. Was ammo issue, he was using remington bulk 9mm ammo, and the flare was so strong on the casing that it would actually catch the ramp.

Thanks guys,
I returned to the range today and shot two boxes of AE without issue and then had a fail to feed on the second mag of reloaded. I guess that's the end of using that stuff.
Slavex, do you know where I might pick up a guide rod locally or would I need to order one online?

If it's a plastic guide rod you can have one of mine. I'm in chilliwack. Might take me a day or so to find though.

You won't find the factory 11lb Springs anywhere over here(mainspring not guide rod spring). Cajun gun works sells 11.5 lb main Springs. I run an 8.5lb spring in my Steel Challenge gun, with Federal primers, no light strikes.

An upgrade to think about is the stainless steel guide rod. You can get it and all CZ parts, springs (and a plastic guide rod) etc. from CZ Custom down in the US. Watch out for the shipping costs though, they are quite high. I have a few fellow CZ shooters that pool our order to save shipping. I have also heard that if you contact them and ask them to send it regular USPS they will for less $$$.
