Hi Guys
I am looking to buy a CZ SP 01 shadow. I am not sure which one to buy. The orange is pretty pricy compared to the canadian edition, and looking at the specs there doesn't seem to be alot of difference for the $550???
The reviews seem pretty good on the canadian edition.
I would also consider the target or the T. I don't want the decocker in the gun.
I am just getting back into the handgun hobby, from years ago.
Initially I was going to buy the tactical sport in 40 S&W.
But I have not been able to handle one to see what it feels like in hand yet and didn't want to spend that much money until I hold one.
I will probably buy this one at a later date depending on how and what I use the guns for.
Any comments on who owns these specific guns would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I went through this same issue a week ago trying to decide which CZ to get.

From what I understand, the SP-01 denotes the frame and slide design with the lower rail up front and more material on the front of the slide. The shadow adds a few minor bits and pieces that make it better... still not exactly sure what. Then the Shadowline model adds alot of the stuff a person would want to do to the gun to compete.

The 75B Shadow and Shadowline models are the same as the SP-01 in terms of features but are missing the lower rail infront of the trigger guard on the frame and have a more heavily milled slide at teh front.

The SP-01 Tactical is just an SP-01 Shadow but with a decocker instead of a safety (from what I can tell).

Not sure where your looking but the orange gun is just an SP-01 Shadow with orange grips, there arent any other differences VS the regular SP-01 shadow. The Canadian edition had a few more visual upgrades, maybe some others ones too... but it was a limited edition so your bound to pay more for it. Unless you MUST have a llmited edition (the orange was limited as well I think) just look for a 75B or SP-01 in whatever trim level you prefer. The limiteds are really hard to find right now.

This post helped me alot:

The SP-01 Shadow is your regular shadow.. Circular hammer spur etc. The SP-01 Shadow line has the CZ Zub upgraded hammer, thin aluminum grips, and I think the recoil guide rod isn't the regular plastic setup. The CZ75B Shadow Line has the same upgraded hammer, grips, recoil guide rod, etc as the SP-01 Shadow Line but with the CZ75 frame (non-extended dust cover) and the milled slide that narrows towards the muzzle. Any of the guns in the 'Shadow' series will have a fibre optic front sight and enlarged rear sight. I don't know if it was sold in Canada but there is a model of SP-01 Shadow with an adjustable rear sight as well.
The Shadow Line series also has the CZ85 shaped nickle plated trigger.

If you have the money to spend and like the appearances of the Canadian Edition or other limited editions, then go for it! I have a regular SP-01 Shadow without any upgrades and its fantastic. I practiced with it for a few months and got 4th place in Production out of 26 shooters at my Black Badge qualifier. I was pretty happy with those results as I am still very much a new shooter. I think any of the firearms in the Shadow family would be a fantastic option - reliable and very competitive.

The Canadian edition shadow (which I have) has a tuned trigger and much shorter reset. Also the barrel slide and frame are hand matched for tighter fit making it slightly more accurate. It also comes in a larger and nicer box and includes multiple springs including the #13 main spring and #11 recoil spring.

Although the shadow line also has improved trigger, better hammer and aluminium grips I don't think it has the hand matched barrel slide and frame.

There is a fella with a NIB Shadow for sale here on this site. The pistol has a name of an accounting firm engraved on it. Any one knows if this would decrease the value?

It would decrease the value... but if you dont care, it doesnt make any difference. Its a shame someone would do that to a nice gun though. But cool a company would give away a gun...

of the engraving is done on the frame or slide it will be useless to you if you want to shoot IPSC, unless you don't mind declaring Standard. It won't be allowed in PD. if it's just on the grips, no big deal. But either way, it reduces the guns value hugely in my opinion. Enough so, that for me, I would not pay anything for it and would likely refinish it if given to me.

Anyone has a ballpark figure on what this gun will be worth then? I am interested in buying it but I don't what to be stuck with it if I don't like it.

There is also a 2 tone SP-01 shadow on the market place for $700 shipped... its a NICE looking gun. I almost bought it myself.

The engraved gun is worth what a person is willing to pay for it. Its really hard to determine how negatively the engraving will effect the value. Someone may see it and not care... or the guy may sit on it forever. What I do know is $800 is really high. You can buy a brand new one for very close to that and an 75 Shadowline (non SP-01) for just a bit more. He's also got zero feedback so thats negatively effecting the value because whoever is buying it is taking a gamble.

Ive had an SP-01 Tactical for sale for a few weeks at $725 shipped and have only had marginal interest. Its a strange market right now. I do know I wouldnt pay the $1200 the guy wants for the CDN edition thats for sale. Thats really high, even for a limited edition IMO.

Id say look up the 2 tone and buy it.

This one!

ok, not this very one, but one like it....regular SP01 Shadow with aftermarket aluminium grips.

and get the .22 conversion kit for it too!

I personally went with the Shadow Line from Canada Ammo as I neither like or need the lower rail. Just plain ugly in my opinion. I love my Shadow line!

When it comes to firearms I only buy new. Engraving is a pretty gross thing to do to a nice handgun, steer clear. Makes me wonder what else was done to the firearm.

^^ thats why I held out and found one. I read very good reviews about the SP-01 frame helping with faster follow up. Im sure its minimal but luckily I DO like how it looks. The truth is, the gun is the same otherwise so whatever suits your taste.
