CZ 75 SP01 or Glock 17?

I started with a G17 then switched to a CZ75BD then to the SP-01 with the standard safety. The Glock did not fit my hand very well and I did not like the recoil characteristics of the Glock. The SP-01 sits comfortably in my hand and the SP-01 is a heavy gun so recoil feels light. On the down side (for me) I find the trigger reset a little long on the SP-01. As for accuracy, I found the CZ to be a little better than the Glock. Overall I am very happy with CZ. Shoot both if you can and decide for yourself.

Pick the pistol that feels the most comfortable in your hand. The Opinions of others will have zero affect on which pistol fits you best.

Those two guns are the exact opposites of each other. Glock 17 is one of the lightest full-size 9mm pistols; SP-01 is one of the heaviest (this means that their recoil characteristics will be drastically different). Glock is DAO while CZ is traditional SA/DA.

If this is going to be your first gun, I'd say go with the SP-01. You can't go wrong with a classic all-steel pistol.

If you have a chance to shoot them both, say 30-50 rounds each one after another, that would def give you a very good idea which one's for you. I shot a few dif guns same day including G17 and set my mind on SP-01 Tactical (with decocker). Choose what you think is best for YOU.

Hell, I didn't even know what a CZ75 SP-01 looked like until I found this picture:

It looks a lot like a CZ97 to me. I am a big fan of both CZ75s and Glocks so this is a tough call. In the end, I would probably go with the Glock 17, if for no other reason than, there are a lot of them out there. Glocks are easier for the average Joe to work on than any other pistol except the 1911.

I own both and SP 01 is way nicer then the Glock! its more accurate just as reliable, and less snappy. only down side too the CZ is its heavy "but your not carrying it around town"

Glock; no contest. CZ 'platforms' are used by zero law enforcement agencies compared to the Glock. All you need to know.

just because law enforcement agencies use them dont mean there a good gun  alot depents on the $$$ and how idiot-proof it is

no, what you should know is that Glocks are monkey proof, and for the most part a decent sidearm for LE. Most (but not all), LE rarely use their firearm except for annual Qualifiers, so an easy to use gun is picked. They are cheaper to make than a CZ, and arguably less maintenance. It comes down to budget as well. I am sure many LE agencies use the CZ based firearms.

Parts and prices.

The CZ people make some very fine stuff. The Glock people do too. So, it probably comes down to money right?
G17 VS CZ price is a good place to start. The downside to the CZ is that most parts or upgrades must be fitted, thereby incurring more costs. Glock parts and aftermarket stuff drops in. The CZ reverse 1911 rail system appears to have an advantage over the John Brownings design, but when you must tighten the slide to frame fit after firing thousands of rounds, the CZ would be more difficult. Know a good gunsmith?
Holsters and magazines would be a little more difficult to obtain for the CZ, easier for the G.
Are CZ barrels better than Glocks?

And yet if you look at what Production shooters are using to win in the US USPSA , you will find that CZ is a favourite.

You should decide what you want to do with it.
Plink? Compete in IPSC? Compete in IDPA?
How does the gun fit you? How comfortable are you with hand guns?

A guy on the CZ team in the US said that after 17,000 rounds, the gun was just nicely broken in.
Do you know of anyone ever needing to have the slide to frame fit tightened? Seriously, I'm curious.
It's a new one to me.

CZ parts, holsters and mags are very easy to get,I have 2 CZs,a pre - B and a SP01,I have no idea how many rounds are through the pre-B model,it was shot in competition before I got it than I used it for 4-5 years and there is no play in the slide or frame rails so I don't know where that idea came from.I wouldn't part with either one of them.As far as the Glock well I did try a few of them.

I am curious as to which police agencies use the CZ pistol. I am sure it is a miniscule fraction of those that issue the Glock. Previously, the Smith and Wesson K frame revolver was the standard police sidearm (still a great firearm). Now the Glock is the new standard and a great firearm.

A whole countries police force and its army use the CZ,..guess which one. CSC are getting rid of the Model 10, thank god. Revolvers are fun to use though.

Who cares what the average beat cop (who spends 90% of his time writing out speeding tickets) carries on his hip? If you want to start the whole "my gun is better than yours cause it's more tactical" debate, the very least you can do is look at what real professionals use. Does SOCOM use Glocks? No. SAS? Nope. JTF2? Nu-uh. KSK? Nein. RPIMa? Non.

You need to put down that extra large Glock-flavored koolaid drink. Glocks are decent guns, but they are hardly the most "tactical" pistols. Glock is essentially the gun equivalent of Ford Crown Victoria - hardly the best product in its class, but it gets the job done, and is quite affordable due to special LEO pricing.

Found this quote on the CZ usa site, It's pretty bold quote by CZ if what you say is even true. One thing for sure they are not used here in north america

"CZ 75 B is used by more Govern-ments, Militaries, Police and Security agencies than any other pistol in the world."

I agree 100%. The Glock is a great pistol. But so is the CZ. LE use means it is probably in the top tier, but the spectrum is big with HK, Sig, CZ, Glock, SW, Kimber, Beretta amongst others on that tier. Obviously. The guns are different....and trust me, you're not going to use them quite the same way as these dude's do mentioned above. (Maybe they can let us know what they use and what they would use if allowed to choose) Therefore, either of those pistol's are well above your skill/combat use level. No offence, I'm in the same boat as you. Rob Furlong and partner (atta boy!) and/or the JTF 2 fella's...now that's some opinion that I'd listen to.
