Im looking into getting a new 9mm and im leaning towards a cz...but im wondering, is there that much difference between the 85 and 75? beside the obvious that the 85 is newer.

thanks :D

Both are fine but save your pennies and try the SP-01 Shadow if you like the CZ type guns. Less recoil, better sights, trigger, and safety.

well I might actually get a norinco knock off instead and i dont think they make the sp versions :D

I know the Norinco is more affordable. I owned an Nz-85, and they are not horrible by any measure, but if it's within your means, save and buy the CZ.

CZs are awesome. The 75 is a fine gun. I own a Shadow but still love the 75 for what it is, a somewhat more rugged, conventional war-worthy version of my own gun.

If you want it for IDPA/IPSC shooting then the CZ85 has the advantage of not having a firing pin block. The absence of the FPB allows for a better trigger pull or at least a beeter trigger job can be done on the gun.

Both are excellent. The FPB isn't that a big deal and if you don't need the ambi controls the 75B will do the job for you. It will be a long time before you can outshoot the gun.

The Shadow is realy quite nice but need to lose weight to be shot in IDPA.

Take Care

I had an 85. They arent not expensive enough to warrant buying a knock off version of the real thing. Buy it used if your cheap.

I love the look of those CZ 75Bs, especially in stainless. No Restricted license as yet, so no candy.

But I read in the Feb 2009 Guns&Ammo that there was an ambi 75B Stainless with rubber grips? Was the writer mistaken? The photo looks like it reads' 75 B' on the side...

I own a Shadow with around 3000+ rounds through it. Love it. Great gun in every respect. Now that the stage is set.....

Handled a plain Jane 75B in a store a week and a bit ago. Got to dry fire with permission. The SA trigger pull was a bit heavier than my SHadow but not by a heap. Similarly the DA pull was heavier and rougher but then so was my Shadow when it was new. All in all yes both the SA and DA are a bit heavier but truly it was only a bit, not a whole heap more.

If you're on a budget I'd heartily recomend the 75B as the cheaper of the lineup.

Oh, and while the introduction of the 85b came a bit later it is the same gun but with the added features to make it ambidextrous. There's no other advantage to paying the extra money other than the leftie friendly controls. Even then a southpaw shooting buddy of mine has adapted to shooting my Shadow just fine other than the magazine release. But that's only a flip of the release button away from putting the button on the right hand side.

I have the Norc copy in 40 S&W. I bought a Fobus holster for it. Gun does not fit. Is the Norc frame wider in the muzzle area than a real CZ?

Is there a Fobus model that will fit the Norc CZ?

Anyone want a Fobus for a 75/85?

The frame on the Norc is forged, not cast, and it and the slide are a fraction thicker. One member here took his Fobus, and popped all the rivits, and re-rivited using washers to open it up.

If your Norc copy in .40S&W is like the real CZ75B in .40S&W the slide is full all the way to the muzzle.

Hard to find a good holster to fit, most places that do have ones for CZ types only have for the 9mms.

Safariland makes a couple for the .40S&W,check out their models #568,and 5188, also the 6004,but again, sounds like it's only for the 9mm

Other CZ knock offs:

Baby Eagle 9mm
Armalite AR 24 (would like to try one some day)

I have a CZ75 in stainless. It's a nice pistol. The 85C seemed nicer to shoot though. I've heard very good things about the SP01 shadow.

So far the nicest CZ I've shot was a CZ75 tactical sport. The trigger was fantastic. I wish I owned that one.
