Here's the brief story:

I've never really been a big CZ fan. I never thought much about them. Until I was at the range and another shooter had a CZ-85 combat. Well the pistol shot very well, was extremely comfortable and had a very good trigger. This pistol made me look good :D

I looked into getting a CZ75b stainless last year. This year I finally ordered one. I'm really looking forward to shooting this pistol.

From my understanding this pistol isn't strictly a regular 75b. My reading has led me to believe that this pistol has the ambi safety, oversized mag release and comes with rubber grips.

Those of you that own the stainless model. Any opinions, good or bad? Anything that should be changed shortly after I get it? Hogue grips? adjustable sight? etc....

I don't have one stainless, but they are very good looking gun with quality.

I am just waiting, hopefully one day, cz85 combat stainless.

Can`t talk about the stainless model but - I have owned two CZ 75Bs, a model 97 and my son shoots an 85 combat for competition and loves it. It never misses a beat, is comfortable and accurate. He shoot both factory and my reloads and it has never had a feeding problem with either lead or hardpoint. Excellent value.

I have the standard CZ 75. Can't wait for the stainless 75 in 40 cal to come out.

I fully agree with Jaydee; an excellent gun, accurate, reliable, high quality, comfortable to hold and shoot, perfect for smaller hands and for the ladies, and affordable. It's the one gun I got that gets the most use. I have bought and sold lots of guns, Berettas, Sigs, Glocks, etc., but I always kept the CZ. I know of several people that bought them just from trying mine. You'll love it.

I guess they aren't that common.
The extra cost over the standard is hard to justify. However with the upgrades, and the fact that it's stainless, I was able to talk myself into it :D

I ordered mine from Gunsnthings. I have to say if it wasn't for the feedback on CGN there is no way I would have ordered from them. Internet and mail orders only? No telephone number, no person to contact etc. Only an Alberta address. I guess that goes to show you how good this site is. Otherwise there is no way in hell I would have EMT's the money to an email address without a lot more assurance. But... since other people on this site have had good dealings I decided to go through with it.

I'm just waiting for the arrival :D.
 
This is what I've started to use for IDPA.

It shoots well with some necessary modifications. The fibre optic front sight is a must for aging eyes. Trigger job helps smooth out the doubole action pull. I was shooting a Para 16-40 LDA but the lure of cheap 9mm hooked me.
It kinda feels like my Browning High Power without the hammer bite.

JMJ, Nice looking 85 combat. I might get a SP-01 shadow later on. I'm considering competing in the near future. I'll probably use my Service pistol at first for IDPA. Simply because I'm very use to it.

Epoxy7, Can you use a SP-01 for IDPA? An acquaintance of mine has a CZ-75 model with an integral under-rail. Is that one of the SP-01's? If so his was too heavy and would not fit in "the box", therefore they would not allow him to shoot it at the local matches.

It should fit in the box but needs to be lightened a few ounces (3) to be IDPA legal.

I use a 75b Tutone in IPDA/CDP and IPSC.
Competition Sights, 15 lb Main Spring.

I know the shadow is listed now for production class with IPSC,
But I guess there may be weight concerns for IDPA.
I'll have to look into it.

I've never competed, so I'm just starting to look up the rules. Before making a purchase for a competition gun I would definately research all of the rules first.

It's just a tad too heavy. 42 ounces when it's 39 max.

I have finally found some time and played around with this. First off, a brief summary of the problem:

The SP-01 is too heavy to shoot in SSP, and since it has a full length dust cover it cannot be shot in ESP. The ESP rule states:

Pistols approved for SSP may also be used in ESP and CDP
depending upon caliber, even if the pistol in question has a fulllength
dust cover. However, should the pistol in question have a
modification that removes it from SSP, it must meet all other
division criteria for ESP or CDP, again depending upon caliber.

The 'modification' (IDPA's way of saying 'feature') in this case is the pistols weight being way over the 39oz limit of SSP with a mag in place. I have found a way around this.

I took a current model 3 slot SP-01 DA/SA and did these things:
1. Replace the stock rubber grips with 75B plastic grips.
2. Replace the slide stop with 75B slide stop.
3. Replace the mainspring plug with a 75B mainspring plug.
4. Replace the flat wound recoil spring with a 75B wire wound spring. You can also use a Wolff spring.
5. Do not use the SP-01 magazine, use the older style 16rd 75B mags with the detents in the bottom of the tube.

With those changes, you are below the 39oz limit with mag in place. You can also do some weight trading and get some more features. For instance you can have the factory remove the firing pin block, then replace the stock sights with CZ-USA Competition sights. There are probably more variations of trading weight, but I know the above works and gets the gun and mag right at 38.9oz.

If anybody needs an IDPA legal SP-01 or the parts to do the conversion, let me know, I can get them.

Also, I would be interested in seeing someone else duplicating this and weighing theirs, to backup my findings.

Hmm that sucks about the Shadow. Thanks for the info though dinsdale. Looks like I'd have to either use the stainless, or get a 85 combat. How much do the mags weigh? Are there lighter ones out there?

I had a CZ75 about 12 years ago - great gun , never missed a beat. I sold it when the mag limits came into effect, as for me at the time I couldn't justify having my 15 round mags pinned.

The ONLY issues I had with the design were: No firing pin safety (some may not care, or CZ may have put one in newer versions?), and I found the relatively small vertical portion of the slide hard to grasp overhand (which is the way I have trained to operate my service pistols).

Other than that, at the time, it was a fantastic pistol for $400, or for any price!
