Hello Nutz,

I've been enjoying shooting with a CZ-85 Combat for the past year now. I've been experiencing an increasing amount of light primer strikes. It's gotten to the point where I'll see one every 20 - 30 rounds.

More often than not, when a experiencing a dud, you can immediately pull back the hammer and fire a successful round.

This happens with all my magazines and does not seem to be connected to any particular brand of ammo or load.

The CZ is unmodified and remains in it's original factory configuration.

Any ideas how I can correct this? As it's an accurate shooter, I wouldn't mind using it in competition, but need to get to a more reliable state.

It could be crud in the firing pin channel. The overtravel screw in the trigger could also be screwed in too far, causing the sear to drag against the hammer instead of completely clearing it when the trigger is pulled.

Both of the above suggestions are sound.

First, do a detail strip and clean it well (the hammer spring should last a looooong time if everything else is working properly). There are a number of spots where built up fouling could slow down the hammer and/or firing pin.

I haven't experienced it, but I have heard that too much lube on the firing pin can work it's way in and collect crud. Also, are you reloading? I have lightened springs installed in my Shadow and I started experiencing the odd light strike with my reloads. Turns out that some of my rounds had slightly high primers. I didn't realize that they would cause much problem but they did. After re-adjusting the primer station on my press the problem cleared right up. Like you, if I simply pulled the trigger on a 'dud' round it would go off the second time. If you aren't reloading then obviously this can't be an issue.

Thanks everyone; some good info here. I'll slowly step my way through some of these recommendations to see exactly what the fix is.
