CZ 85 combat range review

Other than the ambi controls, is it much different than a Pre-B 75?

...just bought a nice pre-B... :)

Not much difference except the 85 Combat allows you more options to change the sights, especially the front sight which is held by a pin and can be easily changed. The original 75 front sight is part of the slide bushing and is much harder to change.

Mine came stock with a pretty terrible trigger - it had a lot of gritty creep before the break. A competition hammer has turned that into a very pleasant and clean break with no creep.

Because my trigger was so terrible out of the box, I've been hesitant recommending these guns to anyone who doesn't want to spend the extra dollars and time to replace the hammer.

Because I bought mine mail-order, and I haven't handled others or had opportunity to test the triggers, I must ask - is this typical of the CZ 85 Combat, or did I get stuck with a Friday afternoon special as far as the gritty creepy trigger?

Anyway, especially with the mod (which I understand gives it a trigger comparable to or better than the Shadow), this is a gun you can write your name with at 25 yards. You point it, shoot, and it hits where you pointed it with boring regularity. I'd not trade mine for the world. It fits like a glove, is quality built, has good (adjustable) sights, and hasn't had a hiccup since I took it out of the box.

Out the box most CZ's are gritty other than the Shadow models probably in part due to the hammer. Just shoot/dry fire the pistol and the trigger smoothes out nicely.
