I'm wondering what kind of groups guys are getting with their scoped CZ 858.
I'd like to here what kind of groups one can expect at 1, 2, and even three hundred yards. Please specify what type of ammo you use.

Thanks for your input

I'm getting 3 to 4 inch at 98 yards with open sights. I'm quite happy with that kind of accuracy. Using the surplus ammo.

Entirely dependent on ammo. With some Norinco ammo I've come very close to MOA. With surp generally around 4-5". I would imagine with handloads you can get MOA or better.

Me and a friend tried out some handloaded Sierra bullets 130 grain I think, and we were shooting in the same hole off a bench at 25 yards with iron sights at an indoor range! I would guestimate that at 100 yards that would be about 2 or 3 inch group at worst. Pretty impressive IMO.

With a scope, Caldwell rock rest and rear bag shooting cz surplus I was shooting consistently in the 3 MOA range. Some groups were less but none were much more. Expect 3MOA with surplus ammo. I am sure good handloads could shrink that down, but I don't know how much.

X2 on the Norinco ammo. Norinco ammo is your best friend for accuracy. I have come close to MOA with the stuff. With PRIVI soft points, it shoots into about 2" or 2.5" if I do my part and it is fantastic on game. I have found Sellier and Bellot soft points and American brand soft points to all be in the 2-3 MOA range if the gun is well rested and I have enough coffee in me. I use a 3MOA red dot (TRS-25) for my shooting which really helps in the accuracy department as the open sights are course. The 858 is plenty accurate considering what it was designed for.

I'd love to see some pictures of targets that you guys are hitting at the different ranges.

Another question- Does the iron sights have settings for the different ranges, and is it on the money for different elevation settings?

Thanks,
J

I get around 4" @ 100 with surplus. Will the CZ-858 destroy brass?. Is once-fired brass re-usable? Anyone have firsthand knowledge running brass cased ammo through them? (sorry to Hi-jack O.P.)

This is common for me with Czech corrosive surplus when I sort the ammo measured off of the ogive.
Without sorting - lottsa flyers.

The mount - (after re-attachement it returns to zero in about 2 to 3 rounds)

I am currently testing the North Eastern Arms rail mount that attaches to their rear stock mount using an ACOG.

So far I am getting one hole 100 yd groups with the same POI hot or cold !

However- I am experiencing a zero change when I remove and re-install the quick detachable rail.
When I remove the G.G.G ACOG rail from the NEA rail - no zero change.

Even if the NEA rail does not return to zero , I think the system is by far the most stable easy scope mount for the CZ rifles.

The forend mounts (even the good ones) are subject to greater zero fluctuations due to barrel heat.

More to come-

I find my 858 does not beat up the brass, this rifle was designed as a civilian sporter based on the VZ-58 design, and it tosses the brass about 6 ft. My sks tosses Czech surplus casings about 30 feet with the original gas cylinder, about 6 feet with the one I modified. I got a 3" group @ 100 yards benched with cz surplus out of my 858.

Hey chopper how do you sort your ammo?

100 yards prone

I use a Sinclair bullet comparator on a digital slide mike - put the cartridge between the jaws and sort so each pile is the exact same overall length.

Shoot the same overall lengths together -

My Restricted CZH2003 shoots 3" 5 shot groups off of bags. Some lucky S.O.B. just bought the non-restricted 1 off of K1ngC (member here) with which I personally shot numerous 1 inch groups off of a sandbag at 100 yards.
