Hi guys, Got my first CZ 858 today and took it out shooting, LOOOOOVVVEEEE it.
Just one question.
I had some issues with loading the mag using the stripper clips I found that as soon as I put pressure on the bullets to load then the bolt would close on my stripper clips.
I found the bolt button near the trigger wasn't going up far enough to catch the bolt on the last round and that was causing issues.
Is this a common problem? Is the spring possibly dirty and gummed up?

Hope someone can help.
Thanks.

Congrats.

Is it holding open on the last round or not? If it is not, then I'd get it looked at. If it is, you may be pushing rearwards inadvertantly and cuasing it to release. It doesn't take much pressure to get it to release.

Now you have to decide how you're going to mod the hell out of it! ;) ;)

Thanks guys.
The bolt is not holding open on the last round, so I guess as kb007 says I will need it looked at. Other than this little issue, I can't believe I waited so long to get an 858.

Not to hijack the thread but what would be the cause/effect of the bolt catch not catching the bolt after the last cartridge has been fired?

I'm thinking my bolt catch is looking a little rounded/used and abused. It seldom catches the bolt after the last round is fired.

It's not the magazines as I get the same results no matter which mags I use, I've even tried other peoples mags which work fine in their rifles.

Maybe a new one is required?

You are very lucky. A lot of people here want to make their 858 like an AK, you are half way there already !!!

Thanks guys.

If its not holding back on the last round you need a new bolt hold open. Call wolverine they have all the small parts and it will likely be under $8. I had to replace an extractor so I ordered 2 and the total with shipping was $13 or so.

Okay so when I order this part and receive it, is it easy to change out? Something I could do on my own or something that needs a smith to do it.? Again this is my first CZ858 and I see it is a little different than the SKS for dis-assembly.
( I have a habit of worrying that I will drop or loose parts, I hate when that happens)

no need for a smith, it's very simple and there's video on youtube with step by step if you need.

Theres a vertical pin you have to pinch together to remove, then you can remove the horizontal pin. Then its just the catch and spring. Very easy to do.

I had a similar problem. I found that over time the bolt catch had become malformed from the bolt hitting it. The catch had become sticky inside the receiver where if I used a lil, gumption, it would move and then bind in the new position. The cure? Hand file. Just removed the deformed part and cleaned up the filings with some lube and paper towel. Works great now.

Hope that helps you out there boss.
