Hey all.

Im not sure if this is a problem but it cant hurt to ask. Its hard to explain but I will try.
Heres the deal. I have a CZ 858 and my brother has the CZH2003 (restricted). There seems to be a big difference in the feeling when cycling the bolt. The CZH2003 feels nice and smooth while the 858 feels like its "dragging." If I were to pull the bolt half way back on both, there is a slight bit of resistance which is normal half way through. But if I am to slowly assist them back forward from the half way mark, the 858 gets caught up a little bit and drags forward while the CZH slides nicely along. It really feels like night and day. Why is there so much of a difference, and is it a problem?

Edit to add: If I could use a few words to describe what the 858 feels like when racking it half way back and forth; clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk,
The CZH slides in one motion back and forth.
By the way, both guns are brand new, never fired.

Thanks in advance.

Is the finish on the bolt rails shiny on the 2003 and dark-coloured on the 858?

My last 858 needed to wear the parkerizing off the rails before it smoothed up.

Yes sir it is. The finish on the whole gun (CZH) is shiny while the 858 is more matte. I also noticed on the 858 bolt rails there are machining lines? (I think) which you can feel with your fingers, while the CZH doesnt have them, or at least not nearly as much. Seems like a lot of differences between the two.

Oh, no. They both have a slight amount of wear. But neither are bare. They are new. edit, the CZH has a slight bit more wear. may be the answer there.

On a lot of the CZ858 receivers the machining is pretty rough this could be whats causing the "dragging" you are noticing. Frankly so long as the rifle works fine its a non issue, more cosmetic then anything. It will work itself smooth over time, or if you want you can polish the bearing surfaces. I wouldn't worry about it.

I figured it wouldn't be too much of a deal.

Since I have a thread here I figured I might ask.

Is there much of a difference between the CZ-858 and the CZH2003? I know Marstar imported the CZH2003 and you can't get them any more.

Is one better than the other?

I have read that the internals are slightly different and upon inspecting the bolt carriers, they are slightly different and don't interchange between rifles.

Should my brother sell it before he shoots it and get a CZ858 because of availability of accessories and warranty?

Far as I know there are no differences worth worrying about between the rifles, just a few internal differences if any at all.

I find it odd that the carriers are different, BTW your bolt assembly is unique to the rifle it comes with so don't change those parts around. Carriers should be generic.
