Your cleaning materials are fine - windex is soap and water which is effective at removing the salt.
But be sure you get EVERY bit of black residue out of the gun as the black contains salt, the vapours will migrate to the bore.
Dont forget the gas piston hole to the barrel with a pipe cleaner, piston, bolt etc.

You dont need boiling water inspite of what others say.

I don't have an answer for you but I have the same issues, and let me tell you I can clean a rifle! I have cleaned my 58 barrel so much I thought it was going to look like a shotgun barrel by the time I finished...still, if I leave it alone for a week, it will rust.

That's why I sent mine out for treatment as well...I had just ####ing had it. I love the rifle but I can't stop it from rusting no matter what I do.

Granted, I live about a hundred feet from the water here on the West coast and as a result the moisture is hard to prevent to one degree or another...but my 58 is like a rust-seeking missile.

Fortunately the lands are in good shape. But when NEA comes out with shorty barrels, that one's getting reclassified and I am sending my next NR one directly in for treatment (assuming the treatment works well and so on).

Sure glad I never had the urge to purchase one of those overpriced rust buckets.

Overpriced...compared to what?

I have never had a rusting problem with mine. Boiling water, Hoppes #9, oil, shot of WD40 in the muzzle...put it away.

But it's not that humid here in E. Ont. ;)

i'm on the west coast. windex let her set then hot water ( like the black power boys do) then clean and oil. i even go as far as to heat it all up to get all the water out. i have three cz 858's and all are as new. like i say i live on the west coast. this works for me, as others have stated, this may be over kill but works for me.

hot water will cause flash rust. i used to clean my flintlock with hot water, but i kept getting rust after, after many years later, i now use other means, and likewise with my sks i dont use hot water. use warm water instead.

I use it boiling right out of the kettle and never any of this "flash rust" (whatever that is).

I do oil my rifle afterwards, though.
