Hey CGN'ers

I'm looking for a bit of help in deciding on which option to choose in replacing my buttstock. I know there are a few options out there, but I'd like to get your reviews on them. I also want to know what would be better : keeping the buttstock on the factory angle or getting an adapter and going with a straight stalk.
I'd like to know the following questions from those who went with the straight stalk:
1. Why did you decide on a straight stalk?
2. How did it change the handling characteristic of the rifle?
3. Did you use a recoil reducing stalk tube as well, and how did that change the handling?
4. Is the recoil reducing stalk tube worth the money?

Thanks y'all and kind regards

I had an AR buffer tube adapter that had the stock running inline and level. I had a really hard time getting a good sight picture 1) quickly and 2) without canting my head sideways to see along the top of the gun. An adapter that angles the stock downward would probably solve this. That or some sort of front and rear rail like NEA sells that would allow BUIS which would create a higher sight picture.

After considering all the options, I went with a beaver wood stock off a cz858, sanded and painted it black and installed it on my vz58. I like how it looks, how the gun balances and how comfortable it is to get shouldered and looking down the sights.

Czechs got the stock design right when they built it. A tactical stock might look cool, but it won't have anything over on function. Even the vz folder was nicer to shoot than my inline AR stock.

First off, do you intend on running anything for an optic? If not, then I definitely would say to NOT put an AR buffer tube adapter plate that makes the rifle inline with your shoulder. You will have an extremely hard time getting a sight picture. If no optic than any buttstock other than the FAB recoil reducing tube would be good.

1. I compete with one of my 858's seen here:

I put an optic on it mainly for faster target acquisition and decided to put the adapter on and run a CTR stock because the optic runs pretty high even on the front rail. For me (6'1") this is a very good setup and feels very comfortable in every position.

2. It definitely takes out some muzzle rise as the rifle is now recoiling very directly into your shoulder instead of at a slight angle. A muzzle brake also helps with this, but I think making the recoil path linear helped more than anything.

3. No recoil reducing buffer tube. Had one, it collects dust. It makes it feel like the rifle is "double bumping" or recoiling. It just felt odd and wrong. The CZ-858 has little to no recoil to start as it's a semi-auto anyway.

4. IMHO, no.

If you plan on shooting it for fun and shy away from ~$500 of mods to dress it this way, then leave it stock. It's a helluva fun rifle and in it's stock form is just a LOAD of fun for everyone!

My VZ58 came with an angled stock adapter. I much prefer an adjustable stock as im a big guy and have yet to find a "tactical" looking rifle with a fixed stock that fits me. At first, I wasnt into the look of the angled adapter, I thought it looked funny. However, after using it ALOT this summer, im really glad I have it. The downward angle puts your head in the perfect position for using the iron sights. While it may be just a little low for using a taller optic, there are lots of cheek risers available for most adjustable stocks you can clip on when you need it, and remove when you dont.

Without the angled stock adapter, your iron sights are pretty much useless. I put on an AGW linear muzzle brake and it really helped with both recoil and muzzle rise. After installing that, I feel absolutely no need to use a recoil reducing stock. Ill save that for my 12 gauge... the VZ doesnt have much recoil anyway.

I'd like to know the following questions from those who went with the straight stalk:
1. Why did you decide on a straight stalk?
Because I like how it sent the recoil straight back instead of causing a down ward plus reward pulsating motion. Thus in turn gave me quicker follow up shots.
2. How did it change the handling characteristic of the rifle?
None was noted by me.
3. Did you use a recoil reducing stalk tube as well, and how did that change the handling?
ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY!
4. Is the recoil reducing stalk tube worth the money?
HELL NO!

I like the ACE folder or the Dlask straight angle stock adaptor. All the other gimicks I would steer clear from and yes at one point or another I owned them all.

As soon as you put a red dot on this rifle platform the iron sights become use less.
