CZ 858 Chip out of chamber

Hey all,

I just picked up this rifle and have come to find it has a fairly substantial chip out of the chamber. I have yet to fire it, so i can't yet comment on the function. I imagine it will fire and cycle like it is but I would like to fix this. Any suggestions? Does anyone have a new barrel laying around? I really don't want to swap it but I could use it as an excuse to customize it a little while I have it apart.

Any opinions on loctite "epoxy weld"? i've read you can use it to repair cracks in cylinder heads.

Once it sets, it could be machined and made flush with the chamber.
 
My thoughts exactly. I may get away with a steel case, but brass cased ammo would absolutely get stuck. Also the added stress might damage other components.
 
Dlask sent me a quote for 575 for a green mountain barrel installed. I may just put it up on EE for cheap and cut my losses, I'm more of a collector than a shooter so I enjoy having a pristine condition firearm. I'll be sure to include the chip in the ad unlike the previous owner.
 
In the first pic, looks like the bolts been hitting, pretty hard , are there stress cracks at about 3-4:00 on the face of the barrel , or just scratches.

Just get a rounded dowel and some sand paper, polish or sand the area as much as you can. If you remove sharp edges off of the chip then there is nothing that expanding cases would snag. The rest would not matter. Its easy to do and you won't need to loose anything by selling or keeping this rifle, definitely not worth replacing complete barrel over it
 
I shot some steel cased ammo through it today. You can see the outline of the hole on the spent case, but it seems like the extraction process is strong enough to flatten the case out and extract. It does however have a very violent extraction process like it is way over gassed. It throws cases very high into the air. I'm not sure if this is caused by the cases being stuck and messing with the dwel time or building up a little tension before being able to be forced out. It seems excessive, the only semi auto gun I've owner that would even come close to this was a mini 14 which was severely over gassed.

Tomorrow im going to take the piston out and fire it to see how much the case fire forms. I bought a parts mosin from a guy who buba'd it by drilling directly into the chamber when trying to add a red dot mount. Good enough guy to mention the hole while selling it though. The gun would fire and extractions were possible but that 6-48 d&t hole into the chamber would require a considerable amount of force to open the bolt and then a swift smack with a block of wood rearwards to pull it back. The hole in the 858 is 2-3x the size so I have a feeling it's going to take more force to extract with in turn will be putting a lot of extra strain on the rest of the action which will lead to some sort of failure. The extractor is probably going to be the weakest link.
 
In the last picture I also think I see something that looks like a stress crack . is that chamber and barrel chrome plated ? it almost looks like plating coming off but it also seem like there are divots in the face of the chamber? soft metal ? if you bought it new take it back and if you bought it used well see what the seller says .

I think those were fibres from my patches, I can't seem to find any now. If it was chrome lined it certainly isn't anymore lol

My VZ throws cases like crazy. As did my old 858. They hit the roof at the range I shoot at (and I mean with force!) Others I've witnessed seem to be the same. I think it's the nature of the beast.
