CZ 858 Corroded And Rusted (HELP!)

Wow. Just wow. So a gun that is 1000 bucks new + tax (120) so 1120 plus a brand name red dot (bushnell) and the manufacturers scope mount (vz, not ncstar) even without that stuff it should be sold for 600 used....? So used guns are worth 50% of there new value. Is that your opinion or blue book?

I'm actually not far off from Misanthropist... I'd figure the used 858 was worth around $700, plus the optic would be worth maybe $100 to me. If you paid over a grand for it originally, well, the CSAs are overpriced, and an 858 shouldn't have cost nearly that, new. The stock and scope mount would be of no value to me. If the gun came with a factory stock, solid or folding, I'd say the gun with the optic would be worth $800 to me, tops. If I was you, I'd sell the gun with the factory stock for $700ish, and the extras separately.

I don't care what you paid in tax and nobody else does either.

I paid $700 new for my 858.

If $600 is 50% of what you paid for it new, you radically overpaid for that gun, and it's not everyone else's job to cover your mistakes.

But hey, if I'm wrong and you're right about the market value, it'll be really obvious: it'll sell quickly at the price you're asking. How's that working out?

I love how your harping me for selling a gun at a fair price. One that was sold by ALL dealers for 1000 bucks and I'm including over 300 bucks of extras (weather there your cup of tea or not) and I'm asking $870 and Canada post gets $30. Yet people are asking; and selling I might add, plain Jane cz 858s that were originally 700 for 1000-1500 bucks. Maybe your really mad at those people and not me? Lol
How come the bottom has fallen out of the vz-58 but has almost doubled for the cz-858 ?

I'm not harping, I'm just telling you why the gun you're trying to sell, and don't know why it hasn't sold, hasn't sold yet.

I have an 858 that probably hasn't been shot since a Ken Hackathorn class a few years ago...definitely not worrying myself with what's happening in that market. I mostly shoot one or two of my favourite ARs now.

But by all means if you only want to hear what you want to hear, feel free to ignore me. My personal opinion only matters insofar as it likely reflects the opinions of many potential buyers. But again, I could be totally wrong, in which case your gun sold within a week or so of putting it up. The only way to know if you've priced it too high is if it doesn't sell.

The fact, Zelly, is that it is not an attractive package. The skeleton stock is not popular. I don't want one. The first strike is not popular. I don't want one. The CSA rail is decent but not necessary. If it comes with this stuff whether I want it or not, well, then I don't want it because I'm not paying for things I don't want. If I did buy the rifle I would have to buy a buttstock I want, and a grip I want. Now I might as well go buy a brand new one for the same price. Every accessory you add cuts out a bunch of potential buyers. It is now geared for that 1 person (if that) who wants a skeleton stock, csa side rail and Bushnell first strike all together on a CSA VZ-58. Most are not interested in the accessories included. Compare that to the number of people interested in a bone stock VZ and you can see your problem. Now consider that the CZ is better regarded than the CSA's, the CSA's were less popular when the CZ's were available from dealers, and the fact that there are many more CSA's on the EE and for just a little bit more you can buy a brand new one and its easy to see why they sit on the EE getting bumped.

I hear what you guys are saying. I mean it's not my first rodeo. (Over 200 Rating) I guess that I will just have to wait this one out.

Hi guys, sorry in advance if i have posted this in the wrong section. Also I used to search to find a cleaning thread for corrosion and had no luck. I have a CZ 858 that I lent to a friends before the reclassification. He told me that he had cleaned it thoroughly before returning it to me. I just pulled it out of storage after about 4 or 5 years and took it apart. it is rusted inside the barrel and the gas piston has rust on the end of it. also where the gas piston fits inside is rusted out. please help as i need some tips on how to remove the rust without damaging the rifle further.

Back to the top.... :)
How did you make out Human?
