Hi all, with the arrival date of these things coming near (I hope), I have thought about ways to customize my cz858.

I was at milarm last week playing with a vz. Man that impregnated plastic for the stocks and handguards is UGLY!! Also, I noticed it is painted a dark grey color.

Well when my CZ gets here, I am gonna bead blast all that paint off at work and parkerize the thing, including the mags. I am also going to hard chrome the barrel bore at work (I got lots good stuff to use at work).

Last but not least, i am going to make a stock and handguards out of some nice REAL wood. I will keep you all updated with pics as well.

One last question, the 7.62 x39 shell uses a .311 bore right? just double checking as I might need to ream the barrel before chroming it.

I know many people on here aren't into doing a bubba job on their guns, but I gotta do it. We all know those cz 858s and vz 58s look like bags of smashed #######s. They sure ain't as purty as my AR.

Hopefully they will shoot better than my sks I had that I was unable to even hit the ground with. blah blah blah.

I would also like ot hear any other ideas that you guys have for these cz's

They park aluminum these days? Good luck with those mags

Chrome the entire gun instead of the bore and get some mother of pearl handguards, stock and grip.

yup. ain't going to parkerize Mg-Al alloy. I would learn a little more about chroming the gunb before doing anything to it. Or simply get a VZ58. As you will be wasting $200 - $ 250 chroming it yourself or even more through a company. Invest in a VZ58 and then mod it.
I am talking to one of our forum members from Czech republik right now about parts and so on for VZ58. He may be able to send us some rails and replacement grips/ etc..

Unless you like black anodized or bare bead blasted aluminum, you;re stuck with grey painted mags. The chromed bore thing is a misnomer. If it's important, get a VZ58. If you get an 858, just clean it

As for furniture, some guns COME with wood furniture. Also you can buy it from Numrich - why make it?

Hmm, wasn't aware that the mags are aluminum. I will bead blast them and then anodize them then. As for the chroming, my work has a chrome shop so that won't be a problem, except it is hard chroming, so you don't get the shiny chrome finish with traditional chrome plating. and I don't want a vz, i want the thing non restricted. hmmmm i wonder if i buy a vz and put a longer barrel on it if i can make it non-restricted?

As for the stock and stuff, I want to make my own, that way it will be the way I want it, for better or for worse.

Yes you can do this! CFC regulations and CFC state you can do this and re-reg it through a verifier and have it be de-classed! 8)

yeah the only thing though is a new barrel + the vz will cost me more than a new CZ 858. no biggie. I will wait and bubba my own cz :D

I have a home anodizing set up (for dirtbike stuff) and a parkerizing kit. chroming the barell should be a piece of cake. Maybe other people will want me to bubba their guns for them too.

Sweeeett!!!

That is an interesting set up. Not sure about the scope being in the ejection path of the rifle. :?
throttle-monkey: The barrels are $200-300 range new. You are better getting a CZ858-2 for costs sake. :|

Not sure if the 858 will have any epoxy filler like the 58's do. You would probably be better off spraying the rifle and mags with Arma-Coat instead of plating/anodizing.
Exotic wood would be a nice touch. Both the wood and paint would also be reversible, just in case it ever becomes a collector's item. (yeah, I know, in the future they are more likely to become shredded steel than collector's items :( )

Every single VZ so far from what I have heard is welded. Not a single person has posted pictures of this so called epoxy.

Epoxy plug on mine. Can't post pics, but I could get some email to you if you should so desire.
