I've been saving up to buy one of these awesome guns for awhile now but have some questions before I do. I had a rain day from work and have literally spent the whole day reading the threads on here and would appreciate any help.

I want to use this gun primarily for hunting and want to put a scope on it (read through the optics thread).

I seen the NEA cantilever mount as an option however, as I read, it would require getting a synthetic type stock, the original would no longer work and I would like to keep it with a wooden stock. Also, I believe I read that there would also be a problem with eye relief and the need for a shell deflector (read NEA will have one out soon).

The other option is the side mount. I'm kind of confused on how someone without any skills would go about doing this. Any info on how to get this done would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated.

The side mount can be done by a competent gunsmith to insure to screw-ups. You could also use a NEA forward mount and use a long eye relief scope or red dot.

Good timing. Someone on another thread recommended http://www.sa58.cz/. I emailed them, the railed dust cover will fit the 858, and they do ship to Canada. I emailed asking how to get one.

Awesome, thanks man! Good timing indeed! Could you keep me posted on what you find? I would really appreciate it, having a hard time translating and navigating that site.

I apologize if this is a stupid question but I just don't have as much knowledge as many of you about this gun and scopes.

Would I have any issues mounting a leupold rifleman scope for example on a railed dust cover like this?

Thanks for any help I appreciate it

What kind of distances are you going to be shooting the rifle? Do you really need a scope I found that my CZ I was able to get good groupings out to 100yards with good ammo. Maybe you don’t need a scope unless it is the cool factor that you are after.

Well the thing is I've always used a scope since I was like 12 so it's really just what I prefer and am use to. I know it's not the perfect coyote gun, but, thats what I want to use it for, so a scope would really be nice to have.

Thanks again

I was curious to see how far the CZ would go. I shot it at 300 yards using the red-dot. I was hitting the target (4ft). Next season I'm going to test what the rifle can do at various distances.

Fair enough but you would be surprised just how well these guns shoot with new after market sights there are even peep sights that aim themselves for low light conditions. The thing I love best about the stock CZ is it is light and handy and feels just rite as is it’s a great little gun!

The dust cover mount is $370 CDN plus shipping which isnt cheap. Your looking at well over $400 for something that no one has proven reliable that I can find. Im sure there are stores out there that claim NC Star SKS dust cover mounts hold zero...doesnt make it true. They may very well be rock solid but until someone does a good review I wont be sending that kind of cash. That being said, it was made for shorter RDS optics as the dust cover is not very long so there isnt much room for a fullsize scope unless you mount a shell deflector as the CZ ejects nearly straight up. It could most likely be done, though I would choose a side rail and mount or POSP scope. If you look at the Belarus mounts on sa58's site they have a picture of the BP 02 low SVD mount on a CZ and it sets very low. mounted over the dust cover would make a nice QD setup that will hold zero. Just my 2 cents

Thank you very much for your reply!

Perhaps you are right, I maybe should hold off getting the dust cover until people have reviewed it.

To use a hunting scope I'm pretty sure I will need a shell deflector anyways. From what I have read NEA is supposedly coming out with one or I could modify the sks one like I have seen others doing.

The posp scope is a good suggestion except I want a scope for coyote hunting and would like a larger field of view and variable magnification.

I really like the idea of the side mount as it seems well proven, however, from what I have read you can not buy the side rail anymore so I'm kind of at a lost for what to do to go that path.

Thanks for your suggestions and everyone's help, hopefully I can pointed in the right direction.

I think your thinking of Interammo's rails for the CZ, IIRC something happened between him and his mfr, but that was only one rail on the market. Westrifle has one and Eastwave has several. Ill be getting in touch with eastwave as they carry the Belarus rail that I want

Thanks once again for the help, from the site I searched I wasn't aware the posp scopes had variable magnification. The posp 3-9x42 scope I think would suit me well. Is the POSP BP-02 SIDE MOUNT the mount you are talking about?

Which rail would be the one I would need (looking at eastwave)?

Eastwave only has one pic of the BP-02, I think it was the AK mount. They also make an SVD and low SVD mount you can see here: h ttp://www.sa58.cz/products/bocni-montaz-s-weaver-listou-bp-02/ copy paste that into google translator (remove the space from "http"), scroll down a bit and there are pics of the lowest mount on the side of a VZ58. Its mounted too far forward but you can simply mount the rail further back to have the mount come over the dust cover.

Thanks, I'm liking that scope and mount. Still have the rail problem though.

When I get back home from my family emergency I will post some pic's for ya on what I did in your situation.
