I want to know from guys who have owned both a CZ 858 AND a SKS. Do you guys think it is worth paying 3 x's the price of a SKS for the CZ 858???? I am thinking about buying another rifle that fires 7.62x39, just because the ammo is dirt cheap for range shooting, and that caliber is perfect for Deer.

I really want to know if the CZ 858 is more accurate that the SKS?, is it more reliable?, or is the main reason that most guys buy the CZ 858 just because it looks similar to the AK 47, and is scary cool looking? I am really having a hard time to justify buying 1 CZ 858 over 3 SKS rifles. I have owned a 1950 Russian SKS, that I sold (regreting it now) because it was'nt Chrome lined barrel, and I wanted a Chrome Lined barrel model so I could bubbafy and turn into a practical shooter, and Deer hunter.

YES. I sold my SKS several weeks after I bought the 858. Try out an 858. If you don't like it, sell it on the EE in about 5 minutes. Try to sell your used SKS on the EE.......

Accuracy on my 858 is superior to any SKS I have seen. "Only accurate rifles are interesting".

I have three sks rifles and one 858. I never use the sks rifles anymore. I am lucky to shoot 3" groups with either and the surplus ammo, but I am consistently more accurate with the 858. The trigger is better on the 858 and it shoulders better for me than the sks.

Initially i bought it because it was 'scary cool looking' , but now is probably my favorite rifle to shoot.

The 858 and the SKS aren't even close to being comparable. I've owned an SKS for about 20 years and an 858 for about 2 years. The 858 is better in every area except price. Given a choice between buying 3-4 SKS rifles or one 858 I would buy the 858. I didn't realize how good the 858 was prior to buying one.

I have both as well , Put it this way ive shot about 40 rounds out of the sks and 2 crates out of the 858 ! Way better rifle to shoot IMO .. But it is like comparing apples to oranges .. Like other guy says try selling your sks compared to the 858 on the EE ....

Depends how you look at it and if your looking at the possibility sector of a CZ858 then yes it is definitely worth it, if your just looking it as a cheap plinker to shoot 76X39 ammo just to shoot X39ammo then no it is not.

YES YES YES, A thousand times Yes. I was diehard into SKSs, bought a CZ858 only because it has removeable mags. I have since sold all but one of my SKSs. The CZ fits me better, shoots better, looks better, all around is better.
Buy one you will be impressed, its no 200.00 surplus rifle
Good luck

I have both, the CZ-858 is over priced forsure i think it should be a $500 rifle and does not come chrome lined but they have high cap detachable mags, better handling and look cooler . As for the SKS they are a screaming deal cause they are surplus,i bought a mint russian chorme bore sks with a laminate stock for $180, as for accuracy they are about the same i find except when the barrels are very hot the 858 wanders more because it was not meant to have a 18 inch barrel . So the SKS is a better deal but the 858 is a more capable platform . I say own both!!

if you get the 858, you can get the restricted model, you will get the chrome lined barrel. The 858 is fantastic, i own one, and its a keeper. It is new, accurate and very good looking. I shot the sks, blah...nothing special...the 858 feels much better

I have 1 cz non-res, 1 czh restric and one csa carbine on the way. I never bought an sks, never had the craving for one. But cz/vz etc... is a GREAT gun. You will not be dissapointed

Hey someones gonna be mad at me but.... I owned both the SKS and the CZ 858
don't you gun nutz think the CZ is made CHEAPLY? I mean come on its made from pressed Steel! The SKS is way better made, but heavier, my SKS was also a tack driver.
Heavy and accurate vs cool looking and cheaply made.
My opinion dont get either. Get a mini 30, XCR in 7.62 x 39mm or an AR chambered in the same.

I am actually on the fence since I have had a SKS, and it never had any misfeeds, or problems, I sold it because it was'nt a chrome lined barrel. It was so-so, accuracy but I think that was because of the iron sights kind of sucked in my opinion.

I want to get a rifle that shoots 7.62x39, and I don't mind spending the extra money on a CZ over a SKS if its worth it. I was at the range the other day, and I handled someones CZ, and to me I actually was'nt overly impressed with it. Partially because this guys Bubbafied his CZ, and did'nt do a good job at it, however the steel just did'nt seem too good. I thought the sights were the same as the SKS(which I did'nt like), and I also thought that it should of been a $500 rifle.
