cz-858 issue!

today while blasting away i suddenly came up with a jam. but soon realized the issue was much greater. upon further inspection I found that something in the chamber is creating a squeeze like situation making it seem as though the casings are too large as they only fit just barely past the shoulders of the casing. :confused: I have already tried cleaning and many different shells. I sure hope someone has had this and solved it before! thanks.
 
i had a shell caseing jam so bad i had to hammer a rod down the barrel. i spent hours cleaning the area after i got it out and fired 70 rounds through it since and had no problem. do you have any pitting?
 
alright, i should add its a fairly new rifle. maybe 200 rounds through it. cleaned after every use. i don't know if that changes your thoughts any
 
Did the whole "shell" eject on the last round fired? Possibly broke in the chamber and just ejected the back of the cartridge?
 
check the chamber, there could be half of casing still stuck there.. i had that before with one of my CZs, couldn't fix it, so sold it as is....
 
yep! you're right! looked close, there's 3/4 of a casing stuck. well i'll have to figure it out. love her to much to let it die this way...
 
Just brought it to Bob at custom gun worx today. he chuckled as he had a vz-58 brought in two days prior with the same issue. his solution is an epoxy resin to pull it out. evidently bulk steel casing ammo has been causing some trouble! no surprise there unfortunately.
 
Just keep a broken shell extractor in your range bag. No muss, no fuss. Only $11 at Brownells.

I called a gun smith from Vancouver today and told him my problem. He started laughing because he was just in the middle of removing a broken shell out of an SKS. Anyways, he told me over the phone how to fix it and after that I had the shell out in as little as 20 minutes. All you do is spray some brake cleaner in the chamber to make sure there is no oil in the shell. Then take some JB Stick Weld and shove it into the shell and make sure you don't get any on the actual chamber or in the barrel. Let it dry for about 10 minutes then take a ram rod and hammer and slowly tap the shell out. Mine took two light taps and the shell popped out. The gun smith told me that the shell is not actually stuck in there it’s just in an awkward position to get it out. The JB Stick Weld will just give you a good spot to actually tap the shell out.

Oh and the gun smith said that built up lacquer has nothing to do with the shell breaking. He said its the ammo its self and he says that he gets SKS and 858 rifles in everyday with the same problem.

That one I call total BS on.

I've shot well over 10k of Czech surplus out of two SKS's and 3 VZ's.

I've had a couple of stuck, complete cases that I tapped out with a rod, but I have never had a broken case.

It's really easy to blame the results of lack of maintenance on the ammo.

If a whole complete shell gets stuck then thats oviously a lack of maintenance. If a shell actually blows off the back of the case then its oviously the ammo. Since that shell popped out with little effort when tapping it out, it clearly wasen't stuck just like the gun smith said and if the back of the case didn't get blown off then my extractor would have pulled it out. On another note, he mentioned it was the Polish surplus thats the problem not the Czech surplus. In fact, he asked me right away if I was using Polish surplus ammo.

I've never been accused of not maintaining my guns before!:D I can say that's not the case here.

The base isn't "blown off", rather it's torn or fails during extraction. It could be from a weak casing, gummed up chamber causing sticky extraction, or even a head space issue.
