CZ 858 issues.

I just picked up a cz858 tac 2 from reliable gun. Nice christmas present for myself as ive wanted one forever but my first two times out with it were less than inspiring. The first 20 rounds I experienced 2 stovepipes and one failure to extract, I used a 2x4 on the charging handle to get it cleared.

I took the gun home, stripped and cleaned it. Went back out and put 60 rounds through it, I experienced 3 stovepipes and one more failure to extract. THe case was seized in the chamber again and I resorted to the "boot" method of clearing it.

So, whats the likely culprit? Obviously I was using the cheap surplus ammo as thats what I bought it for. Is my extractor toast? Should I have the chamber polished? Or is 7 failures out of 80 rounds normal for these guns?

Im stoked on it overall though.
 
did you clean the chamber really well? use the large chamber brush in the cleaning kit, I scrubbed mine really good and have fired 190 rds. with zero failures. this is all with czech milsurp too.
 
Spent extra time on the chamber as ive read about laquer build up, tight chambers ect. If I cant get somebody in Prince George to polish it Ill probably just use the variable drill method mentioned in farmboy's thread.

Why the stovepipes? Its not holding it like a #####, magazines? There was only one of four magazines that didnt experience a least one stovepipe.
 
I would strongly suggest cleaning the hell out of the chamber. I would even suggest attaching your cleaning rod to a drill and using the brass brush on the chamber area. Put lots of solvent on the brush turn on the drill and clean for 15 seconds. I would repeat this at least 4-5 times re-applying more cleaning solvent every 15 seconds of running the drill.

Historically I've had the same problem with my SKS and 858 but both of the them worked flawlessly after the above described cleaning. Good luck.

Is it a brand new rifle?

I had the same problem after 69 rounds went through my brand new cz-858 that I got from frontier firearms. I too was using the surplus ammo. I thought because the outside of the gun was so greasy after first opening it that the inside was oiled and ready to fire but it appeared not. After cleaning and oiling the gun it turned out fine. Used it on two separate occasions since that incident and no problems.
 
I would also say to try and clean it very well, I have fired roughly 400 rounds through my cz 858 and I haven't even had 1 failure. I only do a regular cleaning immediately after I come home from the range. That's it
 
Got mine at reliable early 09. I put 1100 thought it over the first month and never had a issue. After I picked it up and cleaned it well. Maybe that was the trick.
 
Thanks for the replies everybody! The gun is new, Im going to try the drill/brush combo and use a different (and less) lube next time. Im not too worried about it, I see it as an excuse to shoot the #### out of it. to get it running properly, of course.
