CZ 858 Mystery green stuff

Hi everyone,

A non CGN buddy has found something that I'm unable to explain. After leaving his CZ858 for around 6 months, (cleaned after every shoot with hot water, windex, gun cleaner and oiled), he took a bore light, and noticed what appeared to be a dirty spot midway down the otherwise clean barrel. He took and oiled patch and ran it down, only to find a dark green substance on his patch.

Any idea what that green stuff is/was? The oily patch successfully removed the 'dirt'.

I have found blue in my barrel from copper but never green . the blue i found was from cleaning the gas port last and have some sweets 7.62 solvent run down in to the barrel .

Seen green before, no worries "clean your rifle more often"

Windex is just water. use hot water, then a bore solvent to clean normally. Leave some oil in between shoots.

Green is some oxidized copper fouling.

fire another round and see if it is gone, repeat as necessary.

see how the roof of parliament is green... it used to be copper, same idea in the barrel

Thanks for the information. Is this something he should be concerned about? He insists that his cleaning routine is tip top.
