I am thinking of getting a non restricted 858 for my next gun. I want to try ang get one as short as legally possible to keep it non res. I have a couple of question that I hope someone can answer:

Is the only difference between a restricted and non res overall length?

What's the shortest non res length available?

How long overall is the folding stock non res version when folded?

If the shortest overall length for a non res is much more than 26.5", can the barrel be cut to bring it down to 26.5" overall or will this screw things up?

I want a shorty, but still non res if you get what I mean. Thanks in advance, Chuck.

Shortest non restricted will require you have a 18.5" barrel. You need to have 18.5" barrel to be no restricted.

I believe the folding stock with 18.5" barrel CZ858 is around 27"-28" overall length when the stock is FOLDED.

And you can not cut the barrel shorter if it is already at 18.5". If you cut it or a gunsmith cuts it, you have a prohibited firearm.

Sorry, but is there a 858 specific FAQ? If so, where?

Got it on the barrel length. I didnt know it was already so close to the minimum length.

Thanks guys.

The only non-restricted CZ-858 has a 19" barrel, I believe the next one down is 15.5". So If you want non-restricted its the 19" barrel you'll be getting. Dosent matter wether you get the folding stock or fixed with the 19", both are non-restricted.

Thanks for the clarification. Is that the only difference between a non and a restricted, barrel length?

This is covered in your PAL course.. And in the criminal code, as a firearm owner you should probably read up a bit so that you don't accidentally break the law. Don't get your information from strangers in the Internet

One way to make it look shorter is to move the sights back on non-restricted and put a fake muzzle brake on the barrel part that will be past the sights. That is what I did to mine

I would like to see a picture of that (the fake flash supressor) as well if you dont mind. Sounds interesting.

Thanks for the clarification on the differences between restricted and non. I did learn this in my PAL but was wondering if maybe I was forgetting something.

My friend had it done at Dlask I think he said he paid $80 for it waited 4-5 weeks. I did this one myself I had a access to machine shop. You need a lathe, milling machine and 5 ton press the whole think took 2 houers not that hard to do it. Just be precise mesure 4 times before you cut
