Hey folks, got a real dilemma..
I'm looking for something that provides cheap fun at the range.
I keep bouncing between these 2 Reds or maybe a 10/22.
In this comparison, I won't consider the cost of ammo, cheap like water.

A 10/22 scratches the hot-rod itch but 7.62 scratches the big bang and hot-rod itch.

Can I hear your thoughts ?
If it was a toss up between the 2 Reds, what would you choose and why ?
Are they/can they be made accurate without throwing big$ at them ?
Is the CZ scope friendly ?

Thanks for all replies.

I would start with an SKS,for the price you really can't beat this rifle. Cheap, reliable and easy to shoot straight.

Well,SKS is cheap, very reliable, easy to maintain, resonably accurate. But the CZ is,in my opinion a much better rifle on alls aspects except that is more expensive. Now the CZ is my main rifle and i swear by it only. Imao,a sks or a cz is much fun than a .22:D

An SKS would be my choice followed by the CZ 858. With the low cost of surplus ammo you get a lot more fun and bang for the buck.:sniper:

I would consider a SKS over a 858. The 858 in my opinion over priced for what you are getting. Here are some previous links that should help you make up your mind.

I've owned both - sold my SKS and SKS-D, still have an 858 and a 58L, if that tells you anything!!:D

Really, it depends on how much you want to spend - I personally (and this is just my opinion!) think the Vz is a better rifle (better ergonomics, more add-ons available, lighter, better balanced, detachable mags, and more pointable), but there's nothing wrong with an SKS - it's also a very good rifle, and costs a lot less :)

...but hey, what do I know?? :runaway:

Thanks for all the tips guy's. I always like hearing opinions.
Driver, I've seen that picture before, the stock looks fantastic in the photo, did you re-finish it ?
I'm leaning SKS again, that's where I was before I picked up my Beretta 92g, BUT, that could change a few times in the next 10 minutes..

They are minute of imperialist dog out to 300 yards. Neither are very scope friendly, but they are both possible to mount glass to. I owned both and I stll do. I paid 159 shipped for my russian sks and 720 shipped for my 858. The 858 is slightly more accurate, has better ergonmics. In my opinion looks a bit cooler. If I were to pick one over the other I would take an sks.

I picked up the 858 because I had decided on only purchasing one rifle. Well the idea of one rifle is now gone only 4 months later and it is a real easy choice to pick up the SKS to set beside the 858 in the cabinet since it is affordable. Other way around would have been a tougher sell for purchasing the same caliber.

Honestly, I have come to the conclusion you need both but I know the 858 will be "the" gun. At least at my house.

Why do you think it's over-priced? What other rifle of similar configuration costs less?

Ya I did ,it was quite easy and didn't take too long. There is a thread on it in the red rifle forum,,,,do a search and it should come up.

Good luck with your decision.
