Cz 858 Owners

Email on it's way...

In case anyone wants to inform them about the re-classifications: http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2014/2014-03-26/html/sor-dors56-eng.php

Ceská Zbrojovka 858 Tactical 2 and 4 rifles

In 2005, the RCMP identified the CZ858 as non-restricted (in the case of longer barreled versions) or restricted (in the case of shorter barrel versions) based upon manufacturer provided information that was subsequently confirmed by a physical inspection of samples at that time. FRT records were generated and the firearms were subsequently permitted to be imported, registered and sold in Canada.

In March 2013, the RCMP inspected and provided an expert opinion on the classification of a series of CZ858 proof marked 2007 or later. Following an internal review, the RCMP determined that at some point in 2007, the CZ858 rifles being imported into Canada differed from the inspected version and were in fact fully automatic firearms that had been converted to be semi-automatic firearms, rather than being the semi-automatics purported by the exporter. Converted fully automatic firearms are prohibited firearms under the Code given the possibility that they can be converted to fully automatic. Fully automatic firearms pose a significant public safety threat given their fast reloading action and their ability to discharge multiple shots each time the trigger is pulled. On February 26, 2014, the RCMP determined that the CZ858s were in fact prohibited firearms.

The Canada Border Services Agency estimates more than 8 700 CZ858 rifles have been imported into Canada. There are 406 formerly restricted CZ858 rifles in Canada and 423 formerly non-restricted CZ858 rifles registered in Quebec based upon registration data. The estimated value of these firearms is between $500 and $1,000 each.

This phrase from the mouths of our law conjurers still makes me shake my head... you can say it can be converted, but that just doesn't make it so. It is just as easily converted to an espresso machine. It would be easier to build a fresh receiver from scratch than to reconvert to original.

Imagine that, a range only espresso machine.... huh....

Email sent. Thanks for your efforts on our behalf John, don't think for a second that it is unappreciated. I know where my next bangstick comes from.

My emails have been sent and I have sent one to you John. Best of luck in your endeavors on all our behalf.

Here is the immediate auto-reply I just received as well.

If you are writing concerning CZ 858 in Canada, please note that CZ did not recieve any official statement from Canadian Goverment regarding the change of the status of the weapon.
CZ will inform all owners of CZ 858 through our exclusive partner for this weapon in Canada, Company Wolverine, about our next steps.

Best regards,
Petr Kallus
Senior sales manager

I finally recieved a letter back from Steven Blaney's office today about the introduction of "the Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act." I sent dozens and dozens of letters to various Members of parliament and this was the first response letter.

Email sent.

Thanks Wolverine.

Update-Generic response received @1:26pm.

Ditto. Form letter espousing Bill C42.

The fact they created an auto-reply, shows the Emails were definitely being noticed. I never got one, but that was probably before the onslaught.

I don't think they would give you an authorization to transport a prohibited espresso machine. If it was restricted or grandfathered in maybe?

Chances are the final decision will be to give each owner the choice of either a black or camo CZ ballcap as compensation!!!

In a nutshell.....There is an amnesty on the prohibition, but the firearm has to be handled as if it was a restricted firearm essentially. It is no longer a NR rifle until C42 passes.

Prost!

Sorry what is the highlights of Bill C42?

I would encourage all owners of the CZ858 to e-mail CZ and voice their feelings about the current situation in Canada with the CZ 858 rifle. I would advise that you keep the e-mail polite, short and to the point. Most of the posts on CGN have contained a lot of speculation, please stick to the facts as they affect you. I will be meeting with CZ in three weeks and as always this issue will be top of my agenda.

Petr Kallus is the Senior sales manager that we have dealt with for the past few years, he can be reached at (kallus@czub.cz)

Radmila Tomkova is assistant to Petr, (tomkova@CZUB.CZ) as Petr is often out of his office, I would suggest that all e-mails are copied to Radmila.

Please copy me John@wolverinesupplies.com on your e-mails, the higher the volume of e-mails the stronger the position I will have with CZ.
Has some other information come to light than now owners of the rifles should seek out CZ for compensation rather than wait for our government to act in good faith as they have promised?

Sadly all the e-mails amount to less than 2% of the owners, so I am not sure how much of an effect it will have. I was expecting a better responce. I will be meeting with CZ in a weeks time. We really have to wait and see what our Government will do first.
Honestly I don't know what more you were expecting, I find this to be a good turn up I mean it's not like every gun owner is on cgn and more so cz-858 owners, some of the cgn owners are not like some here that are regular, some come once a week, month and some come for a while then move on to other hobbies. And i am pretty shure that alote of folks sent emails with out sending them to you to. I say cz can't expect 10 000 letter, in retail you know that not every unhappy customer will voice there discontent , IMO if we get to send 5-10!% of the Canadian letter that is alot as there is no way of reaching all the owner of this gun.

I am quite sure a lot of CZ-858 owner aren't even aware of their status to begin with.

2% turn up is very good imo.

I've been in 2 local sporting goods stores and brought up the conversation of the swiss and 858. They didn't even know what rifles I was talking about and never heard anything about the reclassification and they both consider themselves a gun shop. Wouldn't be surprised that 1/2 the owners of these don't know about it either especially if they aren't on here and deal mostly with shops like those.

Doesn't matter we are supposed to keep up to date on these issues, cops wont care if you haven't heard they will just take it.
