I'm looking at a scout scope option for a CZ. I'm getting it as a gift for someone so I want to get it right the first time. I've been looking at the Burris scout scope and am wondering if anyone has tried this? Specifically on a Fab handguard. I'm trying to find out the lowest rings I can use, also how well can one achieve a cheek weld with one?

Thanks for any help.

With low rings and a cheek riser you can get a good cheekweld. I have a magpul stock and riser on mine and had it scoped for a brief moment. It was fine but got boring quickly.

Thx for the info, did you run the CTR off a Fab tube? I can't find info any where on the web about if the tubes mil spec or commercial. I can't ask the owner as it will raise suspicion about his Xmas present. Suprise is key!

I am using Leupold scout scope with Burris AR-PEPR mount and it works very well with Magpul stock with cheek riser.

From the OPTICS FAQ sticky:

Just chiming in, pics to follow, I used 2 $5 barrel clamped scope mounts from dealextreme to mount an ultradot red dot on my CZH2003. The cowitness is almost perfect with the iron sights.

I plan to similarly mount a Bushnell IER on my non-res 858 (once they arrive).

They're pretty solid by the looks of things, and I can get a pretty decent grouping out to 25 yard with my CZH2003. (1" grouping with an unmagnified 4MOA red dot - at 25 yards, that's as good as it can shoot)

I'll run a torture test a little later on to see how well it holds up and how accurate the mount is at longer distances - but I can really see no reason why they wouldn't hold up. They're just a 2 pieces of aluminium with 4 screws. How can you possibly get that wrong?

I just REALLY dislike the upper handguard mounting systems on the market. They are really expensive, and when you think about it, every time you remove and re-install your handguard you ARE technically changing the zero on the scope. Also the factory handguards on mine have wobbled loose - I believe with heavy use, those systems would too, rendering them completely useless.

I would steer away from mounting a magnification optic on a FAB front end... It's only plastic and I wouldn't be comfortable with the heat shield returning to zero at any accuracy over 50 yards. I run a Vortex red dot on my front end for 3 gun, but it's just a red dot and we shoot max 125 yards. If I was gonna scope a CZ-858 I'd buy an AR and put the scope on it instead, :)

Another option for scoping/mounting an optic on an 858 is to get a side clamping rail for over the dust guard. I had an NEA cantilever rail for my red dot, but kept shooting it loose after about 50 rounds... It's just doesn't lock down secure enough for 7.62 I guess.

With just about any mounting option for optic you'll almost have to put a straight stock adapter and an AR tube on it with a new buttstock or a cheek riser in order to achieve a cheek weld.

Cheers

I use a BCtactical aluminum front hand guard with a Vortex Strikefire and the Vortex low mount. It wouldnt co-witness with the irons but it fit tight and held zero after removing and re-installing the hand guard for cleaning many times. The aluminum front hand guards are not cheap... so it may not be an option. But it does work.

My current setup is a removable side mount with the strikefire on top. With the factory CSA sliding stock setup and a cheek riser I can use the strikefire with or without the 2X doubler with cheek riser installed, or remove the optic and cheek riser and go back to using irons with no other changes. I CAN leave the optic on the gun and remove the cheek riser to use the irons under the optic. But theres no point when the side mount just slides off in seconds. Heres a pic:
