Title explains it all! I'm in the market for this style of rifle and wanna know which is better? FSN has some promising features such as the chrome lined barrel but I hardly hear about it in reviews as opposed to the CZ which is everywhere! I like the design of both and would rather have a chrome lined non restricted with a fixed stock but it doesn't seem like thats not an option anywhere.

Also i dont know if there are a readily available supply of replacement parts for the FSN as compared to the CZ. Ill gladly go non restricted CZ but need some feedback on how the barrel with hold up being non chrome lined! I would probably get it arma coated and would be shooting non-corrosive ammo! I realize arma coating has nothing to do with the inside of the barrel btw!

Im the type of person that views guns as what they are- precision instruments/tools and therefore clean and lube after every shoot so cleaning or lack there of will not be an issue!

So lets hear it and thanks for the input!

I appreciate what you put up but Im looking for opinons not stats! Ive read up on all of these and am looking for factual, knowledge based information on the questions/concerns that Ive posted on.

First off there isnt any chrome lined non restricted. Only on restrited are they chrome lined. My non chrome CZ 858 barrel has held up to thousands of rounds with no problems what so ever. I have not seen any rust either and I shoot corrosive ammo thru all of mine. But I also clean regularly after I am done shooting them.

the czh200(3?) is non-res and chrome lined.
good luck finding one.

whats with the cgn hardon for chrome lined barrels?

Well there is the CZH2003 that were available with a non-res chromed bbl, they pop up in the EE from time to time but as bfiles says, so long as you clean after shooting corrosive (properly) you wont have issues. I remember reading somewhere that chromed bbls only last a few thousand rds longer than non chromed, and we all know these rifles have a pretty long bbl life considering how hard they get run by most ppl. X39 is not a barrel burner by any means, improper maintenence does more damage than anything. As for a comparison, dial in your search-fu and look for older threads where people have compared them.

Bfiles if you re-read my original post i'm sure you`ll see that nowhere did I state there was a non-res chrome lined version champ!
And others thanks for the input. As i don't have anything but handguns I am curious and I have read lots of probably what is only myth about chromed and non chromed versions so I wanted some first hand info. I know its probably been posted many times before this but hey its all good. I'm glad to hear that the non chromed bbls hold up well and that's probably going to be a huge deciding factor for me!!

Chrome barrel wear at slower rate but since the 7.62x39 is a small round and that the 858 is only semi auto with pinned mag, the rifle will probably outlast you, so with good care, no worries to have.

All this yakin about barrel rust is moot. Even with surplus corrosive ammo as long as you give it a cleaning your fine. Ffs its just salty residue from the ammo, the ammo doesn't have acid in it! If anyone has ever noticed a small amount of brown in the bore it was nothing that wasn't taken care of with a few rounds down the pipe. I have put 3000 +/- rounds through mine with not even a hickup, no fte's or ftf's. My barrel doesn't look like a '84 ford either. I don't use boiling water. I spray it down with wd40 and shoot some bore cleaner in the barrel and chase it with a bore snake. Wipe it off and put it away. Get the 858 and have a blast shooting it.

Jocelyn & Mr. 4x4,

Thanks for the advice, I realize a lot of what is on here, in this case regarding chroming, is over exaggerated bs in many cases so its good to hear from ppl who can attest to actual findings that a non-chromed, well cared for barrel is gonna last long enough that I shouldn't worry about it.

The 858 seems like a reliable rifle, for the right price, that I can target shoot with and hunt with should I choose to do so. I know mentioning an AR in the red rifles section will evoke some biased opinions but that was my other option. Right now im hard pressed not to bust out my credit card and order up an arma coated 858.

I like the original look of these rifles and would want to keep it pretty much as is but with an optic of some kind. Must say I dislike the stock furniture. A better looking type of wood furniture, walnut perhaps, would definately have me interested.

That will be my next project. I will be getting a 858 from Murdoc again in flat black and order up from the states that raw wood and stain it a nice russian red then tung oil the bjebus out of it. Then slap on a B.C. Tactical scout mount with a bushnell redot. I think it would be sick ;)
To bad though cause I was realy looking forward to an NEA front tritum sight post and a rear tritum peep sight instead.

When we were developing product for the VZ 58 I had a non Res 858 that had about 60,000 rnds through it before I sold it. Before I did it was still shooting 3-4 MOA with Czech surplus. I understand that the current user is still rocking it.

Chrome lined or not.. Upgraded or not.. any of these rifles will outlive you.

F*cking eh!! Done deal. NEA be rest assured i`m still coming to you very shortly for one of your AR`s and much respect on the way you conduct your business good sir!! Ill back a Canadian company any day and especially one that stays true to their word!!

And Satain i`m thinking our minds on this one are not far apart. I love the look of the wood furniture but want something a little nicer than whats provided. CZ with arma coat, new furniture, bi-pod up front and the tactical scout mount with a nice scope has my d*ck hard not gonna lie!

Interested to know what parts failed during the 60000 rounds, anything major?

Nothing at all on that rifle. Although we went through a few strikers on some other guns with a fraction of the rounds.

That test gun got abused pretty hard and seemed to like it.

I've got a friend that had a striker crack about 2 years ago and he decided to leave it to see how long it would last.. He's still running it.

One of my 858s had a trigger issue, it was fixed under warranty, but since then it's been indestructible. It's only at around 5000 rounds though. Good to know that 60000 rounds is doable. I might go throw my 858 in the mud next time I'm out, just because.

To much info but thanx and check out these guys in the states;

This is what I am thinking except I want them to send me the wood raw so I can stain it a nice red like the beaver barf color and then tung oil the $h!t out of it. Of course with a folder instead of the wood stock.

Definately a nice kit and awesome that it comes raw so it gives you some room to play with different stains!! So long as it fits nice and snug with zero movement I think you`ve found a winner.

And thats my bad...firearms get my overly excited from time to time lol
