If you don't already have an CZ 858, then try and get one of those and get an 81 on the next go round. If you are just adding to your red rifle collection then get an 81 instead. I understand the desire to hord these rifles but for those that already have one or more 858 rifles, the decent thing to do would be to let some of the newer guys have a crack at them. I was lucky enough to pick up a gently used one a few months ago, absolutely love it. The folding version is the reason I got a PAL in the first place.

I held off years ago when the CZ 858's were $700-800, thinking it's too much for a surplus rifle and now it's even more, but there's nothing but positive feedback about them.

can't go wrong with a swinging hammer...I like the Type 81, as it was designed to be like the AK, only better...the VZ-58 is nothing like an AK...i'm sure the linear hammer is plenty reliable, but I just like the Type 81 better...I would love to have both, but I could only get one...
What has always done it for me about the VZ/CZ is that the Czechs were the only com block allowed to make a none AK pattern rifle. And 10 years after the original no less. The Russians were control freaks. Why let them make it if it wasn't equal to if not better? The Chinese had to make something else after they fell out with the Russians.
I realize this has no bearing on what we can own but I thought this video shows something interesting between the two. The AK internals are moving all over the place with that giant long stroke piston and bolt assembly pulling left and right, where the VZ stayed in the center and pulls up, which could be mitigated by a break and a vertical grip.

This!^ Already have the 858, the 958 as of now is dead in the water. I was left with one choice which I jumped on.

That's funny, I guess every article and product review I've read about a certain Chinese Norinco Type 81 rifle being brought into Canada followed an editorial error.

Ya it might be enough.
Norinco is not a manufacturer. They are an exporter. Poly Technologies is another exporter. Sometimes they both buy from the same manufacturer but often not.
