What do users of these rifles find to be the quickest method of reloading? Seeing as the little pin sticks us with reloading every 5 rounds. I've taken to keeping my used stripper clips, and loading 5 on each. I don't typically bother with swapping magazines, seems to be slower. Of course, I'm shooting at the range, with the bench right there to lay stuff on. I suppose if I had to carry my stuff, it might be different. Also those magazines are hella big, for only 5 rounds, so it's hard to justify the weight of carrying more than the one for the rifle.

I found if I didn't load only 5 on the clips, I'd get that 6th round coming off, and jamming up somewhere, or only 4 would go in the magazine and the 5th would be loose. Just seems to save a bunch of hassle to make them 5 round clips. Is there any way to crimp the clips, so the rounds stay tight together all on one side?

Thanks

Peen the rails in the middle of the clip with a screwdriver if you want it to keep five rounds together on one end.

You can cut them in half and peen the cut end shut to make two 5 rounds clips.

Yeah I did something similiar when I was shooting a buddies CZ858.

I read a post here that someone was cutting the stripper clips into almost half and bending one side up 90 degrees, this means you would have to be aware of the direction that you are inserting the stripper clip.

During service rifle competition, especially during the snaps (15 second target exposures), I have no trouble engaging, getting 2 hits, changing the mag and getting back on target before the target goes down.

That's a product of practice, lots and lots of practice, though.

I'd estimate I could get a mag change off in under 3 seconds. I may have to take a video and time myself to be sure.

Don't know about crimping them but you could always cut the clips shorter. Use a dremel with a small cutting wheel.

I've done this and it works. You just have to crimp down the edges at one end to keep the shells from sliding off.

It can be tricky since the spring tempering of the clip can make it brittle.

I change mags, a little practice any you can get really fast. fumbling around with shortened or half loaded stripper clips is a pain and inconsistent.

Just heat the corners of the cut bright red with a torch then pinch them; no problem at all.
I don't know if the Vz loads as fast as an SKS with a 10 round clip, I never found a slicker clip loading rifle than the common pedestrian SKS.
PP.

IF you aren't changing mags you're wasting your time on the rifle. If you prefer stripper clips get an SKS. If you're shooting at the range and don't compete or train it doesn't matter how you reload or how fast.

I change mags as well.

Not as fast as with an AR but with practice you can be respectable.

Shooter skill being equal, they never will be quite as quick as you have handle the expended magazine to remove it, (rock out) the AR drops away on it's own while the left hand is bringing up the next fresh one. But provided you aren't too concerned where your CZ mag lands, I've seen some fast changes on a mag well (opposed to the AR's mag housing style) equipped firearm.

Part of one of the interesting differences that make these rifles fun.

Had a few minutes tonight, so I made a short video.
Reloads from the mag and with stripper-clips. I'm at least 50% faster with the straight mag change. YMMV.

Have a look.

That car parked out front of your house IS the Government...

Seriously though, that was pretty cool demo, thanks for that.;)

I dropped a Dlask extended mag release in to mine...I grab the fresh mag beer-can-style, bring it up and nail the mag release with my thumb while hitting the body of the empty with my fingers, it drops out and I stuff the new mag in.

That is the fastest method I know of. The extended release is not NECESSARY but it does make me faster because the big paddle is just a little easier to hit at speed.

Actually it's a van. But I don't mind, I feel safe knowing they're watching my sh!t all day and night. I don't even lock my doors anymore. :D

Glad you liked the video.

Exocet, what is that sling you have? It looks decent.

It's a Blue Force Gear SOC-C sling.
It's a convertible sling, capable of being configured as a 1,2, or 3 point sling.
I got it from One-shot tactical...

Now off to Farmboy to get my commission cheque.;)
