CZ Bren 2 MS NON-Restricted MAJOR UPDATE Post 587

I had one store owner tell me might be closer to spring time so I bought an 11 inch while I wait lol. I don't care that it's restricted, i just want to get one asap. Word is that these are pretty sweet rifles.

congrats, what's the difference now? restricted and less-restricted?

Should I get one prior to whatever ban occurs, possession is 9/10 the of the law (apparently).
Should these be stopped/banned before they get to me, then I just saved 3K.....and so has everyone else.
Glass half empty or half full? :)

Well, nobody but you can make that decision based on your particular considerations. What I can tell you however, is that I am enjoying the heck out of my 14" 5.56mm Bren 2. I've had it to the Range 5 times in as many weeks and it has functioned flawlessly from the first round to nearly 500 down the pipe thus far. Accuracy is decent at 2 MOA on a cold bore, opening up to about 3 MOA mas the pencil barrel heats up. Like many other military rifles the Bren was optimized for light weight, likely based on the axiom that service firearms are carried far more than they are typically fired. That said, the Bren 2 is plenty accurate enough for banging steel out 400m on the range that I attend (CHAS/Genessee Range, ~Edmonton). It is reliable, lightweight, durable and reasonably accurate for its intended re-purpose as a sporting rifle. So what's not to like? Nothing actually springs to mind.....

I bought one despite believing that they will be prohibited this Fall, because I wanted the experience of firing and examining this exciting new Euro Service Rifle while it is still available to us. The window for Bren 2 ownership is finite IMHO, and the clock is ticking such that the NR versions may never arrive before the ban-hammer falls. Which is why I did not think twice about purchasing a restricted model. The correct military configuration iin the 5.56mm chambering is the 14" or 11" Barrel anyhow, meaning Restricted if you want the military look.

If you ever want to experience the Bren 2, I believe that the time is now and that time is of the essence. YMMV, but as I see it, should the Bren 2 somehow escape prohibition this Fall, then there will be plenty of time to sell the used Restricted model in favour of buying a truly civilian-configured Non-Restricted version.

Considering that i have 8k in guns that already might be banned, i don't need to make it 11k.

At the rate restricted guns are being transferred in Ontario, the non-restricted may get here sooner... But I totally get where you are coming from. If my range was closer, I would have gone the same route as you.

I pre-ordered a non restricked in May, and ordered a restricked one yesterday in the wake of the US shooting wave and the ban that may come along with it here...Called the dealer today, and they said restricted in Ontario will take about 3M to 6M to clear now... So indeed, the non restricted may come earlier, if it is not banned this fall.

This is crazy. What's the transfer times in Alberta? I think I was hearing around 3+ weeks.

Are we 100%sure these will be banned?

Nothing is ever 100% when dealing with a Liberal government (or government of any stripe, for that matter). That said, despite their delusional insistence upon complete civilian disarmament, Poly Se Sovient are neither studid nor oblivious to what goes on within our world. Indeed, they monitor this site at least in part, to remain abreast of new developments such as the arrival of the Bren 2. Rest assured that its image will appear on the updated Poly poster and list in short order if it is not aready featured there. Such is the nature of the enemy that we face, in full collusion with the goverment of the day. A recipe for disaster insofar as the just treatment of Canada's 2.3 million firearms owners is concerned, but at least the opposition are predictable and reliable....

The govt cant afford to ban everything… Tavors are still around.

They can afford to ban anything, as there will not be any compensation.
But there is one detail, that is complicating any further disarmament plans for them right now

That detail is the fact, that they would need to be getting into the mostly non-restricted territory, as by now they had pretty much devastated the entire restricted class.

They realize, that if they do it right now, it might be more than they can handle at the moment.
They also realize, that right now the level of compliance would be near zero, either for the Tavor or any non-restricted in general.

Only a complete idiot would hand them a $3000 rifle (or any firearm for that matter), which they don't know about.
And this is where the new "non-registry" gun registry comes in.

They need some time until enough firearms get accumulated into the system, as the database from which they can draw is growing every day.
Once they shift to the next phase and start requiring the model and serial number for the private transfers, all they have to do is wait and then attack at the time of their chosing.

This will most likely be facilitated through another high profile shooting (even if it happens south of the border).
By then they would be confident enough to enact the ban, knowing that their loot will be significantly higher with the new registry being used at the tool of intimidation.
