For those that own a CZ 452 varmint , and or american, can you state as to which is more accurate. I am looking to build a smaller tack driving version of my precision rifle. I am interested in all opinions as to if there is any appreciable difference in accuracy between the 452 american and 452 varmint. Does the heavier barrel make any difference in group size at varying distances or do you find it boils down to the ammo from the rifle??

I currently run a remington 541 heavy barrel, that unfortunately I cannot find an aftermarket synthetic stock (like a McMillan) for this action. This rifle sets the standards for which all other rimfire rifles I have tried. I have aquired and sold many rimfires that won't even come close to this for accuracy. Granted they have been budget purchases, I really like what I see and hear about the CZ 452s. Wildcat stocks make a pretty cool tactical version that fits CZ actions. I'm just not sure if the heavy barrel will be worth my while over the sporter for accuracy.

Check out ww w.rimfirecentral.com and look in the CZ forum. Best place for CZ info, and if you do a search ie. "american vs varmint" you can see what the general opinions are.

It seems the CZ American and Varmint are both equally accurate. Some people seem to have an american that outshoots their varmint, and some have a varmint that will outshoot their american. Probably varies more between individual guns, rather than between specific models.

The one advantage that the american does have is the 2 action screws (one is a lug dovetailed into the receiver) instead of the single action screw and barrel lug on the varmint. I guess theoretically this is supposed to be an advantage, but lots of people the the forum mentioned above say the lug does not negatively affect accuracy, and that all of the guns are equally accurate. Some people even take the barrel lug out.

Barks; I have 3-541 Remingtons, 2-541T's and one 541S. I also own a CZ 452 American, a Sako Finnfire, and a BRNO #3. The 541's are flat out the best shooters of the lot. This is not saying the others are not good shooters....they are very accurate, but over several targets a clear pattern emerges, the Remingtons are the most accurate of these. The Remingtons have the two screw actions, and are bedded, but so is the 452 CZ. The Finnfire has recorded some very fine groups, but overall still cannot equal the 541's. I have a friend with a 452 Varmint. It shoots about the same as my American, but prefers a different brand of ammo. (common with 22 rimfires)

I think I'll take a peak over at RFC as well for some info. Was eyeing either the 452 Varmint or American or a Buckmark Classic Target for a bit more $$$ as a combo target range gun (something to play with whilst the barrels are cooling on the big boys) and a chicken plinker for hunting. Got bored with the .410 and decided a .22 for head shots would be a bit more challenging and fun.

Anyone have any experience with the Buckmark, good or bad? I think I'll throw up a new post rather than hijack Barks'.

I just shot my American for the first time last weekend. It outshot both my T-bolt and mark II. Though I am contemplating adding a Varmint to the safe, just to give you a comparison. Yeah, that sounds about as good an excuse as any, right? ;)

I recently purchased a new-in-box CZ 452 Lux in Turkish walnut, topped it with a bushnell banner scope. With federal 22lr I can print a 1 inch group at 100 yards.
