I headed to the range today with a couple of felas and my dad and I brought my cz-858. The gun has run flawless for over 400 rounds and after every outing I cleand it religously.

How ever this time I had a real hard time with it. I hade with me something like 120 mil surplus round with me. out of those there must a ben at least 8 or ten time that I went to fire and nothing, no bang, no click

I cycle the action manualy and it shoot no problem. So I was utterly confuse.

wen we were cleaning up the range my dad found 2 bullet on top off the snow. In perfect condition, with riffeling marcs , about 15 to 25 yard from were I was shooting . Here the thing the round beffor it jam the bang was as loud, I really did not notice any difference.

Could it meen my mil surplus are going bad? Ive never had problem with them and they only have ben unbox for about 8 to 9 monts.

Thanks alot for the help!

alot of the milsurp ammo we get is from around the 1970's so i would not worry to much of it going bad. Might be the gremlin, but it was kinda hard to understand your situation.
maybe some one else can chime in

Well I tought it could'a ben like if only the primer would have ignited or not all the powder since we found some bullet on top of the snow aproximitly at 15 yard and cose of that it would not have ben able to push back the bolt far enough to #### the hammer...

wow I can't belive how bad this french's guy english is right now it must be cause its late and I am tired.

ricochet of what ? I was shooting at 100 yard at a shoothing range, they were sitting on top of the snow 15 yard in front of me and they were not deforme at all? this is what puzzels me.

This must be my 7 or 8 time to the range in a 8 nonts period and I never had a problem, why now, why on the tird shot?... I guess it could be the gremlin but... :s

the czech surplus are steel core and copper plated steel jacket i have a handfull of fired x39 bullets and all the czech one are intact after passing through some trees and imbedding in ones behind them

as for what it could be ricocheting off of i have no idea i have not seen what you were shooting at

go read the 858 faq to determine if you have the gremlin or not none of se will be able to help you without having the firearm in hand

ok will do, thank you.

Just to clarifie I aam shooting paper target at 100 yard with nothing beind them till the 300 yard hill of dirt. And they were on top of the snow.

I had the impression that if the gun had the gremlin, it had it from the start and not after 400 to 500 round with out a problem, then almost 20% faloir rate:s?

Since you found bullets with rifling marks 15 yards away, sounds an ammo defect to me. If you could find someone to borrow few ammo from? Or even somes commercials ones? Your gun was going without a malfunction for about 400 rounds an now the gremlin would show up...i dont think so. Try others ammo if you can.

Some rounds (8 or 10) were duds.

No gun powder in the 2 rounds 15 to 25 yds away, just the primer that fired perhaps?

Did you pickup and check your brass?

I don't have any othuer ammo right now, but I will try to get some soon. Thank you your giving me hope!

When you heard this loud BANG! did you fully dis-assemble the rifle and inspect for any damage's

The bang wasen't any lounder then the others! I did open the gun a couple of time after the malfunctions and I did not see any problem, all seem fine.

Thats what I was thinking

i pick up brass but I didn't take a good look at it unfortunatly.

Even if were no powder, the primer alone would not make enough pressure to push the bullet out of barrel so i think that ammo was deteriorated a bit, you will see if you an try others samples of ammos.

I agree, primer alone would not push a bullet out of 18" of barrel and steel bullets to boot. What worries me is that you wouldn't have realized if a bullet ended up getting stuck in the barrel and you would manually cycle the action and fire another one. Even though it's most likely ammo generated problem, when you take the gun apart look carefully in the barrel and check for any signs of damage. No always a stuck bullet ends up blowing a gun but it can destroy a barrel. Is the firing pin free to rattle when you shake the bolt?

yes I check it wen I clean it yesterday and the firing pin was free. Your wright I shoulda took a greater look at the barrel, but at no point were bullet stuck in the barrel.

Its good then:) I remember hunting rabbit 1 time with a .22. I saw a rabbit and i fired but hear nothing, when i worked the bolt, no bullet in the case so i removed the bolt and look at the bore, could not see thru it, the ammo was bad and the bullet stayed stock half way in the bore so my hunt finished right on. Have to go back home and push the little bullet out:redface:

My first CZ developed gremlin after few hundred rounds. Had it tabbed by Dave and since then not a single malfunction. The rifle went through more than thousand rounds after tabbing. So I had a second rifle tabbed right away and it's working great.
