Hey guys. Looking for a good shooter for plinking, target, and hunting. Is the Marlin xt-22, with walnut stock, a capable shooter or should I be saving for a CZ? If one and not the other, Why or why not? Feedback from experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get a CZ.

a) It's a nicer rifle.
b) Given the politics of the moment, I'd rather send my money to the Czechs than the Yanks.

They are all good guns, but once you've racked the bolt action on a CZ, the Marlin and Savages will feel like sloppy toys in comparison. The CZ is just better engineered imho, but the savage will shoot as good or better. Just gonna feel cheap doing it.

I'd go for a CZ 452 or 453.

If you can find one a JW25A is one heck of a little rifle which if found generally goes for $300ish.... it's a norinco that looks like a k98 I have one and won't sell it for what it's worth because it shoots way above its price point. It is equally as accurate as my CZ512 and CZ 452 possible slightly better actually at 100m. Of course the JW25A is scoped and the 452 iron sights and 512 a red dot but still for a bang around rifle you could do well with that too.

As for new if it's your first and only ever rifle and budget is an issue the Savage is a solid rifle. I have not shot the newer Marlins
