CZ pistol comparison

Thanks for the info guys, for me right now I will only be using it for target shooting and may in the future look at competitions but that is a ways off. I've always wanted a really nice shooter and a CZ has been on my short list for awhile. I have held a Shadow 2 and very much liked the feel of it but have not held the Shadow 1 yet.

It’s always been hard to beat the sp-01 shadow...did get a trigger job...but it has always run flawlessly...it’s the one pistol that has never been on the trade list...many others have gone...

There is a Reddit article that includes a comparison chart of features for each of the CZ 75 model pistols. I can’t seem to copy the link, but if you google “Buyer's Guide for the CZ-75 Family of Pistols” you’ll find the article. It doesn’t address the ranking part of he OP’s question, but it does address the model/features breakdown.

The SP01 Shadow feels better in my hand than any handgun I have ever fired - bar none. I currently have two CZ75's and they are fine pistols, but I will own another Shadow someday ....

Ditto. I'm tempted to get another S2 or maybe a Shadow and make it into a Standard Div pistol. I'm hoping CZ would come out with a 40SW of the S2 but I don't think they have much planned for SHOT2018 as far as new releases.

It is interesting subject when one describes the various iterations of what is essentially the 75 Series.

The basic CZ 75B is at the least the son, thence father of all the rest. Put a FLDC on it and it becomes the SP-01 Series. Put a FO front sight on it and clean up the internals a bit and you get the Shadow at notionally 44oz. Design an upscale version for IDPA and remove the FLDC to reduce it's weight and you get, a then legal, 75 Shadowline as opposed to the SP-01 Shadowline with the FLDC which at the time was not legal in IDPA due to the weight limitation.

Decide to market a further upscale verson for the Canadian market and you call it the Canadian Edition. To compete the then newer Tanfoglio Stock111 and you produce a heavier version with a redesigned frame with added bells and whistles and you have the Shadow2. The CZ85 Combat is nothing more than the 75 with ambi controls and a adjustable sight.

Those are just a portion of the iterations. Unlike SIG and their 226 variants, each of the CZ 75 offspring appear to have been spawned by a portion of the gun market be it military/police or competitions and the the specific demands of each.

Do you want a S/A - check, DA/SA - check, Decocker version - check, Polymer version - check. anbi controls check.

None of this would have taken place but for the fact the 75 was and is an outstanding design which has even made the move into the 21 century by going polymer.

There is something in the CZ line for everybody. I have not talked to many shooters who would state they score much better with one variant over the other. To be sure all the features money can buy does not trump talent but it sure is nice when you got um, nicer too if yo have talent. Here is a list of my former and current I too have the CZ virus.

1988 85 Combat - sold
85 Combat - best trigger of the bunch
85 Combat - Sold
75 Shadowline - best stock trigger of the bunch
75B - sold
SP-01 Tactical - Sold
SP-01 Shadow
.22 Kit
Tanfoglio Model "L" - most used of the bunch as an IPSC/Steel gun.

All shoot like lasers off the bench. Freestyle not so much. LOL

Alas none get used to much anymore as I spent the last three years shooting revolver and my M&P Pro. This summer the Walther Q5 Match with an Optic will be in the holster mostly.

Shadow 2 was my first pistol purchase. I have a friend with a Canadian shadowmate, my range has an SP01 with rubber grips, and I’ve just picked up a Shadowline. I prefer the thin safety on any model, and the aluminum grips. The S2 frame/grip feels completely different than the originals, so I would hold, and preferably fire both. Any of the variants will outshoot me indefinitely.

I can’t give you a best to least best ranking - I haven’t bought them all yet. But I plan on at least 4 more CZ’s - I can give you a better answer then

The Shadowmate was the peak of the Shadows, tighter, more attention to detail, better quality control, including the parts put inside and so on. It was the ultimate Shadow. Then the 2 was released. Due to the things they do differently during the manufacturing process, the updated design specs, completely new machinery and much higher QC, you end up with a Shadowmate in terms of assembly and parts, and a better overall design, improved ergonomics, longer sight radius and a nicer finish.

Slavex my early Shadow seemed to have a much better trigger than the one I have now out of the box. Would you say that was consistent or gun specific. Like I posted earlier my 85 Combat with Ken's trigger job has the best trigger of any DA/SA gun I own so with some TLC the CZ line can be made into real nice shooters, not that they are not out of the box.
