I would hazard that these masks were made for another purpose and being surplus they are repurposed as 95 rated masks. But yeah 100% the valve is useless in any indoor setting with mask requirement.s
These are brand new masks and filters. The expiry date on the filter clearly shows year 2040.
You’re right...but there’s a lot of people not wearing masks at all. The N95 will offer the wearer the best protection to offset others not wearing anything. You can always throw on a cloth mask over this one to protect those around you.
It'll filter out most of the lead dust in an indoor range too.
40$ is also a decent price for those who want something to use when they work around the house, like applying isolation material, sanding stuff/plaster, and other work that generate lots of dust. Even for non-toxic material, 40$ is cheap to be comfortable while you work.

You can buy different filters from different stores if the cost is a concern.
