Hi guys, I was wondering a few things about my 858.

It's wearing the NEA upper Handguard and the pin that holds it in place is loose, to the point it falls out after a few shots. I want to find a way to make it nice and snug, but still be able to remove it for cleaning. Anyone have any ideas?

Also I'm running rear peep sights with Fiber optic FS, and I noticed last time I went out shooting that the little cylindrical sight riser that has the yd settings for your rear sight is gone!

What the heck eh? Anyone know where to buy them? Do i need one? It seemed to still shoot great at ~ 50-75 yards just lying flat on the sight platform.

Sounds like you are missing the detent assembly that nests under the pin on the right side of the handguard.

It's a ball bearing, a spring, and a set screw. Or maybe you're just missing one of the pieces. Here's a replacement kit:

Alternately, you should be able to find all the right size pieces at a hardware store. Or you might be able to swap in the detent from the original handguard, but I've no idea if they are the same dimensions.

FYI, if you're not doing so already, put a set screw in the threaded hole on the top of the handguard (up by the front). Snug it up, and once it's installed it will help keep the handguard from moving around. Important if you're running an optic.

personally after every cleaning i was losing the spring and ball bearing , i just decide to only put the allen and torc it for retaining the pin ,

So after I read this I looked all over my HG and couldn't find those pieces anywhere, must have lost them the very first cleaning cause I do not remember those!

Ordered that kit from SFRC and now that its here I am thoroughly confused what to do with these miniscule little spring bearing and screw.

Anyone got some tips?

If I understand you correctly, you've got a set screw, a spring, and a ball bearing that you don't know what to do with.

Your handguard accepts the locking pin at the right rear. That's the corner where you'll put the three parts. The locking pin contacts the ball bearing: The bearing acts as a detent (engages the notches in the locking pin in the open and closed position), and is "powered" by the spring. The spring's relative location (and therefore tension) is adjusted by the set screw. Here is how they are arranged vertically:

pin
ball bearing
spring
set screw

If I recall correctly, you put the set screw in from the bottom, drop the spring in from the top, and drop the ball bearing in on top of the spring. Work over a magnetic tray when installing! When the locking pin is also in the assembly, it holds everything together and the detent keeps the locking pin from coming out accidentally.

Thanks alpining, not very mechanically handy (at least not with tiny little set screws and miniscule ball bearings) but ill give it a go. Maybe just taping it was the answer...
