CZ Shadow 2 Field Stripping Questions

Hey,

So just got my first a pistol a CZ Shadow 2 and while waiting for the registration to arrive decided to practice field stripping it. Tear down was very easy and I got the gun barrel separated from the slide which was now separate from the lower.

Putting it back together though was a completely different story, the "slide stop spring" which presses on the slide stop and secures it in place was very stiff. No matter how hard I tried pressing the slide lock back in to finish the re-assembly the damn thing would not click. Eventually with the help of a bunch of on line searching I got the suggestion to try and "actuate" the spring several times with an allen key to loosen it up before trying to re-insert the slide lock.

After several cycles of me using the allen key to lever up the spring I was able to push in the slide lock with a nice and satisfying "click". I tested the mechanism and field stripped it 2 more times just to make sure that nothing was stiff and everything was sliding in smoothly.

Since this was my first field strip I am very paranoid about having put everything together correctly and have some questions.

Did anyone else experience a stiff slide lock spring?
What if I levered / actuated the spring too much or maybe damaged the coating with the allen key, what are the impacts on the pistol?
I am pretty sure some hair /dust got inside the pistol ( I shed........a lot and have a cat which out cometes me ), for future tear downs how "sterile" does the area have to be?

Move the slide back about 5 mm so the two vertical guide lines between the hammer and safety align, just as when you disassembled the pistol

Yeah, I did that but the issue was the spring itself would not move out of the way when you press the slide stop against it even when the upper and lower notches where aligned.

That chamfer on the end of the long rod is ( from what I gather ) supposed to push the spring out of the way as you insert it in, since the spring blocks the top quarter of the circular hole that the rod is supposed to slide into ( Part No. 3 ):

This guy had a different problem than me but the view at the timestamp ( +/- 5 secs ) is helpful to illustrate what I mean:

When trying to "diagnose" this, I tried inserting the slide stop with the upper completely disassembled ( so I can get a better view of the blockage ) and the even without the slide compounding things that rod would not insert until I got a small allen key in there and pushed the spring up / actuated it a couple of time to help loosen it up. So I guess either the spring was stiff or the slide lock's rod was too steep / not chamfered enough.

My main paranoia is that I am afraid that the manual actuation might have damaged the spring in some way hence me asking if anyone encountered issues like this before.

If your spring is interfering with the hole, your spring is in the wrong location. All CZ clone pistols work the same way; NZ85, Tanfoglio, sphinx, Jericho....

1. Insert the barrel into the slide; muzzle end in the hole, barrel lugs engaged in the lugs of the slide.
2. Insert the guide rod into the spring.
3. Insert the spring end into the slide.
4. "Hook" the big end of the guide-rod on the front of the barrel lug. Note that the slot in the barrel lug is clear, the spring and guide rod are in front of it. Slide, barrel, spring/guide-rod sub-assembly should look like the one in the photo below.
5. Slide the slide assembly into the frame, align the witness marks near the rear of the slide.
5. Insert the slide release through the frame and the barrel lug.

You are done.

I hope this helps.

it's just stiff, give it a whack when the slide is in the right position and it will go in.

Is there an empty mag in the pistol? That would hamper it.

I have a old one, and have to give it a tap with a screw driver handle, to set it, I usually give it a tap as well to start it out.
