Good morning to all and I hope all is well! So I ended up ordering the extended safety for the shadow 2 watched the installation video on YouTube and thought no problem easy… an hour goes by and no luck getting it to go through even with pressing down the little lever and doing everything in the video. So I rest the lower on the table and a spring and little black square piece falls out and now I don’t know what to do. The very small spring and small square piece I’m not sure how it goes back in to the pistol and no videos? Sorry for not knowing the correct wording of parts and use of them!

That little square thing and spring is the safety detent and spring. It goes on the left side of the slide. It goes into place before you reinstall the sear. There’s a tiny little piece that goes into the opposite side as well before you reinstall the sear. You’ll need some tweezers to make it easier getting those little pieces back in.

The following vid should help you. Scroll down a bit to get to the video.

This is the best/clearest video I could find when I recently put a Cajun Gunworks Pro kit in my Shadow 2. You can ignore the fact that this guy is installing some upgrades. The small black part and spring are the left side safety detent and spring. What your looking for starts at minute 18:45 of the video.

FIRST you should remove the grips and the mainspring. This will make the install much easier. Removing and reinstalling it are all in the video.

It can take a few tries. I inserted the spring first. It sticks out at a bit of an angle. Then I inserted the tiny plunger into the spring. Then push the black detent down and back with thump or finger until it snaps into its channel. Once it’s in the channel you can install the sear cage which captures it. Maneuver the sear cage like in the video and keep pressure on it down and to the rear to line up the hole for the wide safety.

I couldn’t find one in Canada. If you want a great place to buy from is the IPSCstore. I just received a second wide left safety for 2’nd shadow. It’s the left side only which is a lot cheaper than the one that gives you both sides. Shipping is about 2 weeks and their great to deal with. Shipping is cheap as well. I won’t hotlink as their not a site sponsor but I’ll post a pic for you:

the spring and square thing are the left side spring loaded detent, you need to reinstall that, then the sear cage and as you insert the long leg of the safety, you need to push the detent back with a small screwdriver or punch. But, you also need to fit the leg to the right side safety too, as it will be too thick most likely to fit. And, when you do that, you'll probably knock the right side detent out, which is not spring loaded. It's easy once you've done it a few times, but can be a bit tough as a newb. You may also need to fit the sear to the safety so that it all works (cheaper and easier to fit the sear than fitting the safety to the sear).

Thank You !
